Elizabeth, the Fashion Lover

[Elizabeth is our new office manager, and she was on TV last nite. Read about her experience, and see the video...]

So I rented a dress for my birthday because my parents took me to the Reunion Tower Restaurant and I wanted to look really pretty (why not). It was fun, and I rented this really pretty blue designer dress that was like $700 and yeah, I’d never spend that.

A few weeks later, this Rent the Runway person contacted me and asked if I’d be okay if CBS contacted me about a story. Why me? I don’t know. But sure, why not. It’s fun, and it’s one of those chances you don’t really have everyday to share a passion on the news.

So, then Marianne Martinez from channel 11 called me and asked if we could do a story, and so yep, we did. Originally it was going to be a valentines day piece, but they needed to move it up. So one day they came over to my apartment and filmed me and interviewed me. It was fun. I do like fashion & follow a bunch of fashion blogs and stuff. That’s kind of it!

Pop-Up Banner, take two

Ok, so you guys know how excited we were about our new Pop-Up Banner back in July, right? If not, read this blog/watch this video first. Ok, so we were excited about it. Well, after a few times (like, literally two times) after pulling it up and down from it's frame, the graphic began to flake off. After about four times, it stopped standing up straight. Six times... it ripped nearly in half. We were being gentle, we were taking extra special care of it... and it STILL did that. Needless to say, we were a little less excited about it by then. Dawn contacted the guy who got it for us, told him all about what happened after six uses... he said he would look into it with the manufacturer he got it from.

Turns out, the particular pop-up banner we had was really only meant to be used 1-2 times, then thrown away. WHAT?!?! No where did it tell us (or the guy who we ordered it through) anything like that. We weren't happy. The manufacturer ended up apologizing and making us a deal, giving us what was supposed to be the best quality pop-up banner they make for a great price to appease us and make up for their mistake. So, yesterday morning it came in. We were all, once again, super excited to open it up and try it out. Here's video of what happened...



Yes, seriously! It took Chris, Dawn, Jade, Eddie and Flossie to get this thing up... and the poll is too long, it will not latch on no matter what we do. We took the poll from the other ("disposable") banner and it fits fine, but is kind of thin. The new poll is more heavy duty, but too long. This is our luck, people. This is what happens to us. Haha! Anyway, we are working on getting that resolved and/or just sawing the poll off a little to get it to fit. But now we're pretty determined not to get excited over a pop-up banner... it's just not worth it.

Philmont stopped by to chat with Drue before their show tonite. They're on the Keep Breathing Tour along with Wavorly, A Rotterdam November and Ilia. That show will be at North Fort Worth Baptist Church tonite at 7pm.

A Rotterdam November In Studio

A Rotterdam November introduces themselves...

A Rotterdam November made a visit to the studio on Friday. I was lucky enough (at least I think so) to be working on air for Drue when they came in. We had a chance to interview the guys, play two of their songs, and the guys even took some phone calls on air. The guys in this band have a great combination of musical talent, hearts for Christ, and a great sense of humor. I look forward to Power FM getting more music from them in the future and their next visit to North Texas (they'll be playing in Fort Worth on March 13th, check our Bulletin Board for more info).

The Wedding loves trivia...

The fellas from The Wedding stopped by yesterday around 2pm and hung out with me. We love having those guys come by, 'cause they're so much fun. We discussed what they had been up to and what they had coming up (they're working on writing some new stuff!) and the fact that they're going to be on a tour soon called The Skiing Is Believing Tour, but no skiing is actually involved... or is it? There were parts of the interview that were sheer chaos... but that's to be expected. It was definitely entertaining.

The band wanted to give away a pair of tickets to their show, and decided to make somebody work for it. They wanted to do a trivia question... since it was President's Day and had recently been Adam's birthday, they settled on "Who was President when Adam was born?"... only, they weren't sure of the answer themselves:

12 Days of Christmas Tour

The Afters played a hometown show last night, along with Nevertheless and Remedy Drive at Live @ Mokah in Dallas. My birthday was this past Wednesday, and since it was in the middle of the week...I decided that I wanted to celebrate by going to this show on Saturday, 'cause I love The Afters and always enjoy seeing them again. It was a lot of fun.

Remedy Drive was very entertaining, with the lead singer attempting hand/headstands on his keyboard and whatnot. Too bad I never actually caught that on camera. I have a feeling their album, Daylight is Coming, is going to spend a good amount of time in my CD player!

They even treated us to some Christmas songs, since it was the 12 Days of Christmas Tour afterall.

Oh, and speaking of celebrating my birthday...the crew surprised me on Wednesday by coming into the studio, singing Happy Birthday and offering little pies. Haha!

I just laughed so hard it hurt...I'm serious.

So, I was going to MercyMe.org to look up some info on their Home For the Holiday concert coming up in Greenville. But I got distracted (yeah, me, distracted? NEVER!) by their Cover Tune Grab Bag feature on their blog. I watched the latest one "Crazy" and laughed. Then I watched the next one and laughed harder. And well, by the 5th or 6th video, I was laughing and crying and doubling over at how ridiculous these guys are. In a good way. David had to leave the room 'cause he couldn't even take it (or actually work or something, psshhh). Mercy Me knows what they're doing. They know how to blog, how to keep their listeners coming back to their website, how to stay connect with their fans, how to have FUN (plus their "real" songs aren't so bad either). Make sure you check out Bart's dancing in the "Jesus Is Just Alright" video! These are the guys who brought you the gut-wrenching, makes-me-cry-every-time-I-hear-it "I Can Only Imagine"...and then here they are in all their glory... Oh dear.

So, if you have some time on your hands and you want a good, hearty laugh, I highly recommend checking out the Mercy Me Cover Tune Grab Bags! Whew...my stomach still hurts and I'm still wiping my eyes. My favorites were "Take On Me" and "Jesus Is Just Alright" but don't forget "Jump" and "Eye Of The Tiger" and OH MY GOSH "Ice Ice Baby"....ahahahhahah! Oh geez, just go through page after page and watch them ALL, you won't be sorry!!!

Project 86 and Spoken Concert

San Diego

Just about every year since Valerie and I got married I've tagged along with her to a convention she attends for her job and the great thing is that it moves to different cities each time.

We've been to San Francisco, Chicago, Boston and now San Diego. She goes to convention stuff during the day and then we see the sites. In San Francisco we sailed on a big catamaran around Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. In Chicago we went out on a boat on Lake Michigan and in Boston we took a boat out to see the whales.

We continued the boating theme again by sailing around the bay in San Diego. It was just Valerie, me, Mavis (our Yorkie) and our skipper weaving in and around 4 aircraft carriers, assorted tall sail ships, like the HMS Surprise, and a Russian sub. I was in heaven.
