I love my work family!

Yesterday, my co-workers threw me a little baby shower... it was so sweet! It was just so nice to see so many of us together at the same time (it's so very rare). We had yummy pizza and delicious cake!



As of today, I'm 38 weeks along, so... just two more weeks (give or take) till my new little boy makes his debut. Don't worry, we'll keep you posted!

To Save A Life - reviews, interviews & premieres!

We have been really involved in this new film called To Save A Life, which was created by the same people who did Facing The Giants and Fireproof. This one is definitely geared towards teens, and is a great film, really well done! We are excited to be a part of getting the word out about it. We were able to have our own Power FM premiere this past Wednesday in Grapevine, where we offered youth groups and Power Corps members a chance to come watch the movie with us. We also are going to be out in the Powermobile tonite at a public premiere of the movie at the Premiere Cinemas in Burleson (put on by the Church at Burleson).

The actors came by the studio this morning and Chris and Dawn had a chance to chat with them. And our buddy, Matt Mungle, did a Friday morning movie review on it as well. This may all sound like going overboard on one film... but it really is that good! Definitely try to check it out if you can! http://www.tosavealifemovie.com/

Benefit Show & Drue's Going Away Party

On Saturday, we had a Power FM Benefit Concert and Drue's Going Away party at The Center in Irving. It was a blast, the crowd was fun and the bands were awesome! Thanks to Theater of the Mind (Michael Fugitt and DJ Drue Mitchell), Burning Yesterday, Luke Huch and Manic Drive for rockin' us!

Pop-Up Banner, take two

Ok, so you guys know how excited we were about our new Pop-Up Banner back in July, right? If not, read this blog/watch this video first. Ok, so we were excited about it. Well, after a few times (like, literally two times) after pulling it up and down from it's frame, the graphic began to flake off. After about four times, it stopped standing up straight. Six times... it ripped nearly in half. We were being gentle, we were taking extra special care of it... and it STILL did that. Needless to say, we were a little less excited about it by then. Dawn contacted the guy who got it for us, told him all about what happened after six uses... he said he would look into it with the manufacturer he got it from.

Turns out, the particular pop-up banner we had was really only meant to be used 1-2 times, then thrown away. WHAT?!?! No where did it tell us (or the guy who we ordered it through) anything like that. We weren't happy. The manufacturer ended up apologizing and making us a deal, giving us what was supposed to be the best quality pop-up banner they make for a great price to appease us and make up for their mistake. So, yesterday morning it came in. We were all, once again, super excited to open it up and try it out. Here's video of what happened...



Yes, seriously! It took Chris, Dawn, Jade, Eddie and Flossie to get this thing up... and the poll is too long, it will not latch on no matter what we do. We took the poll from the other ("disposable") banner and it fits fine, but is kind of thin. The new poll is more heavy duty, but too long. This is our luck, people. This is what happens to us. Haha! Anyway, we are working on getting that resolved and/or just sawing the poll off a little to get it to fit. But now we're pretty determined not to get excited over a pop-up banner... it's just not worth it.

And there was a great flood...

On Friday night, something dreadful and unexpected happened here in the Power FM building. We're not exactly sure how it happened, but the building flooded because of a sewer line issue... there was standing water everywhere (thought thankfully it didn't reach the studio equipment and most of KVTT's area is fine too). Poor Stan, David and Eddie were up here at midnight on Saturday morning, cleaning and drying out the place as best they could. Now it's Tuesday, and the giant industrial-sized blowers and dehumidifiers are STILL blasting through the building. And let me tell you, they are loud! This is the THIRD time this building has been flooded. The first time was the great storm right before the station was to launch in 1999. Then there was another plumbing issue, and now this one. Yikes!

P.S. Ignore the "Bigfoot" sighting at the end... we're pretending that didn't happen. =)

You never know what crazy things are going on around here. We like to leave you guessing too...

Collin Classic Ride '09

Saturday June 13 a few of us in the Power FM cycling group participated in the Collin Classic bicycle ride in McKinney and even fewer of us volunteered at break point #6, the Power FM rest stop. We were able to have the Power-mobile parked at our break point with speakers blaring the wonderful sounds of the station. It was a great way to advertise the station to a segment of people who want some music with a lot of energy. So a big thanks to Wes from our promotions department and the five individuals who sacrificed sleeping in on a Saturday morning to work the station rest stop and serve the riders. Those of us riding experienced more inquiries and shout outs because of our jerseys than ever. It makes sense, after all statistics show that our listenership has grown to over a hundred thousand. So thanks to efforts like the billboards, bumper stickers, power gear, and you verbally spreading the word of the station all equal to more listeners and more hearts touched for the Kingdom.

Seeing RED Contest

We held a Seeing RED contest where we asked people to send in a picture of themselves incorporating the color red. We got some really great entries, but the winner was Heather from Frisco. You can see her entry and many more here. She won lunch with the band and tickets to their show this evening!

The guys from RED came by the studio before the lunch and hung out with me for a few minutes. We got to chat with them on the air and catch up a little. Then they headed out to Dave & Busters to eat and play games with Heather and Power Corps Members, Mike and Beth.

Sounds like they all had a really great time this afternoon! RED and Since October will be performing tonite at The Prophet Bar in Dallas.

Today is National Day of Prayer!

1/2 Boy, 1/2 Man

The average age of the military man is 19 years. He is a short haired, tight-muscled kid who, under normal circumstances is considered by society as half man, half boy. Not yet dry behind the ears, not old enough to buy a beer, but old enough to die for his country. He never really cared much for work and he would rather wax his own car than wash his father's, but he has never collected unemployment either.

He's a recent High School graduate; he was probably an average student, pursued some form of sport activities, drives a ten year old jalopy, and has a steady girlfriend that either broke up with him when he left, or swears to be waiting when he returns from half a world away. He listens to rock and roll or hip-hop or rap or jazz or swing and a 155mm howitzer. He is 10 or 15 pounds lighter now than when he was at home because he is working or fighting from before dawn to well after dusk. He has trouble spelling, thus letter writing is a pain for him, but he can field strip a rifle in 30 seconds and reassemble it in less time in the dark. He can recite to you the nomenclature of a machine gun or grenade launcher and use either one effectively if he must. He digs foxholes and latrines and can apply first aid like a professional. He can march until he is told to stop, or stop until he is told to march. He obeys orders instantly and without hesitation, but he is not without spirit or individual dignity. He is self-sufficient. He has two sets of fatigues: he washes one and wears the other. He keeps his canteens full and his feet dry. He sometimes forgets to brush his teeth, but never to clean his rifle. He can cook his own meals, mend his own clothes, and fix his own hurts. If you're thirsty, he'll share his water with you; if you are hungry, his food. He'll even split his ammunition with you in the midst of battle when you run low. He has learned to use his hands like weapons and weapons like they were his hands. He can save your life - or take it, because that is his job. He will often do twice the work of a civilian, draw half the pay, and still find ironic humor in it all. He has seen more suffering and death than he should have in his short lifetime.

He has wept in public and in private, for friends who have fallen in combat and is unashamed. He feels every note of the National Anthem vibrate through his body while at rigid attention, while tempering the burning desire to 'square-away ' those around him who haven't bothered to stand, remove their hat, or even stop talking. In an odd twist, day in and day out, far from home, he defends their right to be disrespectful. Just as did his Father, Grandfather, and Great- grandfather, he is paying the price for our freedom. Beardless or not, he is not a boy. He is the American Fighting Man that has kept this country free for over 200 years.

He has asked nothing in return, except our friendship and understanding. Remember him, always, for he has earned our respect and admiration with his blood. And now we even have women over there in danger, doing their part in this tradition of going to War when our nation calls us to do so. As you go to bed tonight, remember this shot.. . . A short lull, a little shade and a picture of loved ones in their helmets.

GMA Blah Blog

April 17th thru the 24th was my turn to go to Nashville, Tennessee for GMA (Gospel Music Association). It was a blast. I attended a lot of classes intended to help be a better manager of the station, so I hope I learned something. But it was the music entertainment that was so much fun. Every lunch had a showcase of entertainment and every evening you could find something to do. So here is a list of my top 10 highlights:

10) Running into the guys from Manic Drive.
9) Talking to Mac Powell from Third Day.
8) While checking my email at the internet café, I ended up being next to worship leader Billy Buchanan of Fusebox. It was good to catch up with Billy.
7) Meeting Justin Unger who was in the band Across The Sky. Justin is a worship leader now. I told him how much I liked the song “Give It All Away” and how it fit our share-a-thon message well.
6) Going to see local girl Eimi Hall perform in Downtown Nashville. Then hanging out with and going to Burger King with local girl Eimi Hall and Daniel Rosas who played guitar in GS Megaphone.
5) Talking with Sanctus Real at the DJ/Artist reception
4) Talking with Barlow Girl at the DJ/Artist reception, seeing Barlow Girl host a lunch, and then seeing them perform in a private setting (they probably thought I was stalking them but the truth was there was free Chick-fil-a at the private setting).
3) Hearing new band Press Play at lunch.
2) Seeing old time rocker David Huff from David And The Giants and finding out his son plays guitar in Press Play.
1) Going with Daniel Rosas to the Stryper listening party. Michael Sweet played a few of the tracts from the bands new project. IT IS GOING TO ROCK!

A Rotterdam November In Studio

A Rotterdam November introduces themselves...

A Rotterdam November made a visit to the studio on Friday. I was lucky enough (at least I think so) to be working on air for Drue when they came in. We had a chance to interview the guys, play two of their songs, and the guys even took some phone calls on air. The guys in this band have a great combination of musical talent, hearts for Christ, and a great sense of humor. I look forward to Power FM getting more music from them in the future and their next visit to North Texas (they'll be playing in Fort Worth on March 13th, check our Bulletin Board for more info).

Wanna buy a goat? I did!

In December we once again partnered with Gospel for Asia to make our listeners aware of their Christmas campaign. I am so proud of the response from Power FM listeners this year. Here are the results of Christmas gifts purchased from our listeners:

19 chickens
18 goats
14 bio sand water filters
11 child hope packets
8 sewing machines
And one generous giver gave a water buffalo

For a total of 71 gifts with a value of $4,461. I think that is what Christmas is about, sharing what God has blessed us with to share Jesus with others all around the world. Power FM listeners, YOU ROCK!

12 Days of Christmas Tour

The Afters played a hometown show last night, along with Nevertheless and Remedy Drive at Live @ Mokah in Dallas. My birthday was this past Wednesday, and since it was in the middle of the week...I decided that I wanted to celebrate by going to this show on Saturday, 'cause I love The Afters and always enjoy seeing them again. It was a lot of fun.

Remedy Drive was very entertaining, with the lead singer attempting hand/headstands on his keyboard and whatnot. Too bad I never actually caught that on camera. I have a feeling their album, Daylight is Coming, is going to spend a good amount of time in my CD player!

A Day with RED!

RED came in to the Morning Show on Tuesday and chatted with Dawn & Eddie. We debuted their brand new single "Fight Inside."

Then the band hung out with the winners of the contest we held - shared lunch and a private concert at Seekers Coffeehouse in Hurst.

Kevin Max Concert

Former DC Talk member Kevin Max provided music at a conference at The North Church in Carrollton on Tuesday night. Since the night service was open to the public I went with a few friends from church. We were able to take some pictures of and with Kevin and I had a chance to talk with him. I saw on his Myspace page that he has a motorcycle, so we talked about our motorcycles. And of course I asked him about his experience playing the lead in the new movie “The Imposter”.

Remember we are going to see “The Imposter” for a station fundraiser on Sunday October 12. It will be at 7PM at “The Studio Movie Grill” in Lewisville. Tickets are $7 and you can RSVP weekdays between 9 and 5 by calling our office at 214-353-8970. More info: Get-Together page.

August Get-Together: Paintball, Mini-Golf & More

Saturday many of the Power FM staff were at X-drenalin Zone and Mountasia Golf. Unfortunately all staff members chickened out of paint ball but we had a great time playing miniature golf and riding go-carts with listeners. I must say that Dawn was ready to paint ball but none of the other staff members were up to her challenge. Me, Drue, Rachel, and David had plenty of attempts on the go-carts. I am an avid golfer but I lost in an 18 hole competition to Club 3000 member Patrick. Drue, Rachel, David, and Leslie also enjoyed miniature golf. Thanks to the staffs of X-drenalin Zone and Mountasia Golf for having us out, and thanks to all the listeners who took time to spend with us over the Labor Day weekend.

Billboards

Power FM has been on the air since 1999. It has always been our mission to glorify Jesus by leading believers into a closer walk with Him and drawing unbelievers into a relationship with Him.

We have worked very hard to let as many people know about the station as possible; going to concerts, cruising in the power-mobile, passing out flyers, but now the Lord has provided a new tool. THE POWER FM BILLBOARDS! That's right, be looking for a billboard near you. Here are some pictures of the first of 9 boards.
