12 Days of Christmas Tour
Remedy Drive was very entertaining, with the lead singer attempting hand/headstands on his keyboard and whatnot. Too bad I never actually caught that on camera. I have a feeling their album, Daylight is Coming, is going to spend a good amount of time in my CD player!
Jade & Rachel with Nevertheless.
And The Afters never disappoint.
They even treated us to some Christmas songs, since it was the 12 Days of Christmas Tour afterall.
Oh, and speaking of celebrating my birthday...the crew surprised me on Wednesday by coming into the studio, singing Happy Birthday and offering little pies. Haha!

I just laughed so hard it hurt...I'm serious.
So, I was going to MercyMe.org to look up some info on their Home For the Holiday concert coming up in Greenville. But I got distracted (yeah, me, distracted? NEVER!) by their Cover Tune Grab Bag feature on their blog. I watched the latest one "Crazy" and laughed. Then I watched the next one and laughed harder. And well, by the 5th or 6th video, I was laughing and crying and doubling over at how ridiculous these guys are. In a good way. David had to leave the room 'cause he couldn't even take it (or actually work or something, psshhh). Mercy Me knows what they're doing. They know how to blog, how to keep their listeners coming back to their website, how to stay connect with their fans, how to have FUN (plus their "real" songs aren't so bad either). Make sure you check out Bart's dancing in the "Jesus Is Just Alright" video! These are the guys who brought you the gut-wrenching, makes-me-cry-every-time-I-hear-it "I Can Only Imagine"...and then here they are in all their glory... Oh dear.
So, if you have some time on your hands and you want a good, hearty laugh, I highly recommend checking out the Mercy Me Cover Tune Grab Bags! Whew...my stomach still hurts and I'm still wiping my eyes. My favorites were "Take On Me" and "Jesus Is Just Alright" but don't forget "Jump" and "Eye Of The Tiger" and OH MY GOSH "Ice Ice Baby"....ahahahhahah! Oh geez, just go through page after page and watch them ALL, you won't be sorry!!!

Jesus For President: Politics for Ordinary Radicals by Shane Claiborne & Chris Haw
I have just finished up the book by Shane Claiborne and Chris Haw entitled Jesus For President. How timely, I know! It was definitely interesting, just as the previous book I read by Shane Claiborne (The Irresistable Revolution). I don't agree with him a lot of the time, but I do admire his passion to live out his beliefs. I find his writing eye-opening and definitely inspiring.
"The danger is that we can begin to read the Bible through the eyes of America rather than read America through the eyes of the Bible. We just want Jesus to be a good American."
The last part of the book consists of points that Shane and Chris make urging the reader to rethink the world, especially as an American living in America. Overall there are definitely some suggestions in there that I think some of us could learn from, in being better neighbors to not just our fellow Americans but to others around the world.
This book's antiwar themes are very prominent, as Shane is not one to dance around what he has to say. I'd like to share a few, brief, though-provoking passages/quotes...
"Christians must discern between the voices competing for their allegiance. Is history's voice the same as Jesus'? Does it call us to do the same things Jesus did?"
All in all, it made for an interesting read. Definitely worth checking out, though now that it's Election Day I hardly think anyone wants to hear the phrase "president" any more than absolutely necessary. But, this book is worth picking up, if for nothing else than the amazing artistry of the book. The entire thing is filled with colored paper, beautiful illustrations, cartoons and diagrams...it keeps you wanting to turn the page to see what's next (though I did find the parts that were intentionally misspelled/crossed out to be somewhat of a burden). I admire Shane, as I said before, for his passion and the way he lives out his beliefs and helps serve his fellow man...and he also has a beautiful way with words and makes it easy to read even the history that is this book.

Kevin Max Concert
Former DC Talk member Kevin Max provided music at a conference at The North Church in Carrollton on Tuesday night. Since the night service was open to the public I went with a few friends from church. We were able to take some pictures of and with Kevin and I had a chance to talk with him. I saw on his Myspace page that he has a motorcycle, so we talked about our motorcycles. And of course I asked him about his experience playing the lead in the new movie “The Imposter”.
Remember we are going to see “The Imposter” for a station fundraiser on Sunday October 12. It will be at 7PM at “The Studio Movie Grill” in Lewisville. Tickets are $7 and you can RSVP weekdays between 9 and 5 by calling our office at 214-353-8970. More info: Get-Together page.

Rapture Ready!: Adventures in the Parallel Universe of Christian Pop Culture by Daniel Radosh
He openly admits that he did intend to set out in search of the weirdest, hardest-to-believe aspects of Christian culture. And while he is bombarded with Christian after Christian who are the stereotypical judgemental, close-minded 'freaks'...he does also encounter some Christians that he feels comfortable with, who help him to better understand what is going on inside the Christian bubble. Radosh travels all over the country attending seminars, concerts, meetings, conferences, wrestling matches, museum tours and of course, a live production of Bible Man. He points out the most ridiculous stuff (testamints anyone?) but also takes the time to embrace the aspects that are grace-filled and out of love. He speaks with Christian authors Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker. He spends time Jay Bakker. He visits ShoutFEST and Cornerstone Festival - where he learns a lot about the different types of Christians that exist in just the music world. He hangs out behind the scenes of a Christian Wresting match where some of the 'actors' are Christian while some aren't. Radosh even holds a completely made up interview with Stephen Baldwin, using passages from Baldwin's biography to respond to his questions. He browses the floor of a "Jesus Junk" Expo...where Jesus' face is plastered on all the silly stuff and marked $9.99. He certainly gets around and touches on a lot of areas that we, as Christians, are made fun of for. And some of it, rightly so.
There were times while reading this book that I completely agreed with Radosh. Yes, we DO look ridiculous having that type of stuff in our history and refusing to admit we are behind the times with this or that. But there were other times as well when I could feel my blood pressure beginning to rise, knowing that he just wasn't getting it. But then I'd have to remind myself that...at least he was TRYING to get a grasp of it. Not just dismissing it away as, oh, they're just a bunch of crazy Christians. This book is riddled with foul language and misunderstandings...of jumping to conclusions and assuming that all Christians are 'that way.' But there is a lot of insight in here as well, as to how non-Christians view believers in the every day world. It's eye-opening, to say the least, to hear straight from the horse's mouth how certain things we do get misconstrued and twisted to make us look like complete idiots. He brings it around in the end and speaks of how both sides could learn from each other...and that more people should pay attention to what's going on in the Christian bubble, 'cause they just might be missing out.
All in all, I'd say if you really want to know how those of us in this "Christian bubble" look from the outside, this is definitely a good read. If you'd rather not know, then...shy away.

This Disciple will not meet Abandon for The Classic Crime because he is Justifide Underoath. I Needtobreathe as words are Spoken on this Manic Drive.
A lot happened during my Seventh Day Slumber. On the Third Day I had to Go Deep into This Beautiful Republic and Search the City for Twelve Stones, Seven Places, and an American Made Alabaster Box filled with gifts from All Around The World.
On the Road Less Traveled we tried Falling Up into the High Flight Society, but the Benjamin Gate and its Guardian were in our way. As he was Turning, we said, "Run Kid, Run!" but content under his Red Umbrella, he wasn't Listening.
I discovered we need more than an inspiring telecast to illuminate truth. We need to understand the importance of simple Audio.
Adrenaline flows in my veins as we listen to The Myriad of noises like the FM Static on my Transistor Radio and your Stereo.
Motion happening around us encourages me to Bleach my moHawk.
Nelson will come and take me to the House of Heroes where the Mainstay of the Big Tent Revival is when we send our RED Seabird to Holland. But this will only happen After Edmund, Miss Angie, and Poor, Old Lu are done Mourning September.
On Monday Morning the Delirious Kids In the Way who Inhabited Addison Road will be Casting Pearls that Glisten at Mae and Ruth's Slick Shoes.

Decyfer Down Again
Decyfer Down must like us. They drop in every chance they get. And we certainly don't mind, they're really nice guys! They stopped by in the middle of my shift today and I chatted with them for a few minutes about what they've been up to since our last visit, the new album coming in early 2009, their show tonite, and they treated us with an acoustic version of their new single, "Crash." According to the guys we got to premiere that little slice of audio to the world. How exciting (and it was very, very good indeed)!
They're playing an acoustic show tonite at The Abbey Church in Azle, and they'll be taking Q&A (apparently anything regarding the band, their personal lives and/or theological questions are welcome, "bring it on" they said!).
You can hear the interview here (minus the acoustic song, sorry...copyright laws and all that).

August Get-Together: Paintball, Mini-Golf & More
Saturday many of the Power FM staff were at X-drenalin Zone and Mountasia Golf. Unfortunately all staff members chickened out of paint ball but we had a great time playing miniature golf and riding go-carts with listeners. I must say that Dawn was ready to paint ball but none of the other staff members were up to her challenge. Me, Drue, Rachel, and David had plenty of attempts on the go-carts. I am an avid golfer but I lost in an 18 hole competition to Club 3000 member Patrick. Drue, Rachel, David, and Leslie also enjoyed miniature golf. Thanks to the staffs of X-drenalin Zone and Mountasia Golf for having us out, and thanks to all the listeners who took time to spend with us over the Labor Day weekend.
I hope to see you at our next outing.

Power FM has spoiled me
Back in A-Town -- btw giving a city a nickname doesn't make it any cooler ;) -- old school country stations run rampant. The alternative station only plays rap, and the rock station likes to stick to classic rock.
On top of that, we just recently got an extension of Air 1. Now, don't get me wrong here. We are all in this together and I appreciate that they play music that lifts up our awesome God. That being the case, Power FM has me spoiled.
Kutless followed by Thousand Foot Krutch followed by some harder stuff like Spoken and Demon Hunter equals an awesome song lineup.
Air 1 on the other hand enjoys mixing in some Bebo Norman and Brandon Heath. Again, don't take this the wrong way at all. I enjoy their music, but only when I'm in the mood for it. It's just that I happen to always be in the mood for some rock! lol
That is one (of the many) reasons I am thankful for Power FM. How bout you?!

San Diego
We've been to San Francisco, Chicago, Boston and now San Diego. She goes to convention stuff during the day and then we see the sites. In San Francisco we sailed on a big catamaran around Alcatraz and the Golden Gate Bridge. In Chicago we went out on a boat on Lake Michigan and in Boston we took a boat out to see the whales.
We continued the boating theme again by sailing around the bay in San Diego. It was just Valerie, me, Mavis (our Yorkie) and our skipper weaving in and around 4 aircraft carriers, assorted tall sail ships, like the HMS Surprise, and a Russian sub. I was in heaven.

Billboards
Power FM has been on the air since 1999. It has always been our mission to glorify Jesus by leading believers into a closer walk with Him and drawing unbelievers into a relationship with Him.
We have worked very hard to let as many people know about the station as possible; going to concerts, cruising in the power-mobile, passing out flyers, but now the Lord has provided a new tool. THE POWER FM BILLBOARDS! That's right, be looking for a billboard near you. Here are some pictures of the first of 9 boards.
Pray with us that God will use these to draw new listeners to the station and turn hearts to Him.
More Power To ya!
Eddie
Jade, Andi & Chris are pretty excited about the billboard.
