Very Talented Battle of the Bands in Plano

I loved the battle of the bands I went to Friday night at First Christian Church in Plano! The artists and bands I saw were Jason Deutsch, Kaitlyn Sparks, Ty Mayfield (winner of the night!), Tune In Tomorrow, and Criminal Shift.

We arrived as Jason was playing and enjoyed the covers of songs he was performing. Loved his voice. Then Kaitlyn Sparks took to the stage and did some awesome covers of Phil Wickham and Bethany Dillon.

Ty Mayfield was up next, and he had all the girls swooning over his piano and singing skills! Many might compare him to Gavin DeGraw, of whom he did one cover, but all the rest of his songs were completely original and very well played. He ended up winning, and the youth pastor Chris Layton said Ty probably won because he was so cute. That's why I voted for him. haha j/k

I had been chatting with the Tune In Tomorrow guys before they went on stage. The drummer looks like Edward Norton and TOTALLY broke the first rule of fight club while we were talking about his other celebrity look-alikes. haha They were also very good on stage with only Mr. Norton and the lead singer/guitar player. They sounded very full with the loops they added live; with only two guys on stage, I didn't feel like anything was missing. I got a copy of their CD, and it's been playing in my car over and over! I'm loving it!

Last up was the recent graduates in Criminal Shift. These guys were so much fun to watch! Not that they were going crazy on stage, but you could just tell they loved what they did and were very well rehearsed in it. I highly recommend seeing these guys live. Hopefully they don't all go their separate ways after graduation and will continue to play some live shows in the area. They rocked.

So there is my recap of the best battle of the bands I've experienced. There is some incredible independent and local music out there and you can rest assured we will play the best of it on Indie-Ground every Sunday at 8pm!!

Kayla and I got our engagement pictures done yesterday by our wonderful photography friend Jenna Christine. (Click on her name to view her website.) We went to the Ft. Worth stock yards and found an old abandon building to take some pictures in. CSI Ministry Concert!

This past weekend, Donielle and I got to head back to Aubrey, TX for the second time in one month. This time around we got to visit Aubrey First Baptist Church for the CSI Ministry Benefit Concert.
CSI Ministries is a non-profit student-run faith-based organization devoted to reaching out to other students at Aubrey High School in Aubrey, Texas and more to spread the gospel and bring hope.
First, I want to mention how impressed I was with these kids. Jonathan and Sara, two of the teens from CSI managed to not only pull this whole benefit show off, but they managed to do a beyond professional job. I see a lot of promotions in their future.
The night before, I had seen Waco-based band Everthorn at the Spoken concert at FAith Bible Church in Desoto, and I was excited to see them again. They once again put on a great show.
The headlining act, Burning Yesterday was a good call. These guys know how to put on a show, and I had a lot of fun watching the youth rock out.
I get to go to a lot of really cool events working at Power FM, and ones like these are my favorite. I love to see community get together to love on each other and to praise the Lord. So, thank you CSI for having us out to your event.

I have to say that Aaron does a good job with this cover and doesn't stray to much from the original, however you can tell it has The Almost touch to it. I wonder how long it will be before there is just The Almost and no Underoath.

Yesterday, my co-workers threw me a little baby shower... it was so sweet! It was just so nice to see so many of us together at the same time (it's so very rare). We had yummy pizza and delicious cake!

As of today, I'm 38 weeks along, so... just two more weeks (give or take) till my new little boy makes his debut. Don't worry, we'll keep you posted!

Cheap Ideas for Valentines Day.

So you may be a last minute planner but when I got a call from a frantic listener for ideas his problem got me thinking. I am sure there are others out there who have no idea what to do for Valentine's Day and since its Friday you are probably beginning to stress out.

Well don't get all frantic about it because I came up with a list of cheap and fun ideas and things to do for Valentine's Day.

Ready...set...go.

1. Instead of going out to dinner opt to stay in and make dinner.

It doesn't take a someone super smart to know that usually cooking a meal can last longer and be cheaper then going out on date but you can make it a couples thing that both people will enjoy. As an engaged guy myself I can say that it is fun to go to the store with Kayla pick out things we want to make and then go back to her house and make dinner for us, and it is usually cheaper then going out to a restaurant.

2. Make your date a mixed CD

My first Valentine's Day with Kayla one of the things that I got her was a mixed cd. It was simple I put some of my favorite songs on there and then decorated the cover, and she loved it!

She still has it in her car and listens to it from time to time.

3. Check the paper

There are a ton of events that are going on in Dallas 1. because its Valentine's weekend and 2. the NBA Allstar Game is happening.

4. Coffee Shop

There are some amazing local coffee shop places here in Dallas that would be a ton of fun to go chill at. Check out Opening Bell, Big Mike's, Jupiter House, Cafe Brazil just to name a few.

5. Group Date/Game Night

This could be a group couples party or singles party whatever but get together at someones house and play games together.

6. Museum

There are a ton in Dallas and they are usually pretty cheap and its a good way to get to know your date.

There you go! See, you don't have to freak out about not having plans on Valentine's Day just take some of events from above and have fun.

Elizabeth, the Fashion Lover

[Elizabeth is our new office manager, and she was on TV last nite. Read about her experience, and see the video...]

So I rented a dress for my birthday because my parents took me to the Reunion Tower Restaurant and I wanted to look really pretty (why not). It was fun, and I rented this really pretty blue designer dress that was like $700 and yeah, I’d never spend that.

A few weeks later, this Rent the Runway person contacted me and asked if I’d be okay if CBS contacted me about a story. Why me? I don’t know. But sure, why not. It’s fun, and it’s one of those chances you don’t really have everyday to share a passion on the news.

So, then Marianne Martinez from channel 11 called me and asked if we could do a story, and so yep, we did. Originally it was going to be a valentines day piece, but they needed to move it up. So one day they came over to my apartment and filmed me and interviewed me. It was fun. I do like fashion & follow a bunch of fashion blogs and stuff. That’s kind of it!

What is in a word?

Communication is a pregnancy of sorts. In a speaker’s mind, a thought is conceived, then spoken, heard, and then ultimately gives birth to new thought in the listener’s mental landscape. For example, when I say “tree,” a picture builds in your imagination, a new life-form within your mind; a platonic idea of oak or maple appears out of nothing within your thoughts. This mental icon represents your understanding of the word. (Incidentally, this apprehension is independent of the speaker’s intentions).

In many ways, words are metaphors pointing to the objects they represent. The word “tree” is not a tree; it is simply a placeholder for the real thing. Our understanding of the world is built upon a deeper set of presuppositions. Meaning demands meaning. Reason demands reason: 1+1=2, only when we agree upon the meaning of these symbols. The same is true for words. Words are our framework of meaning. Every one is a metaphor reaching to something beyond it’s simple spelling and articulation.

To Save A Life - reviews, interviews & premieres!

We have been really involved in this new film called To Save A Life, which was created by the same people who did Facing The Giants and Fireproof. This one is definitely geared towards teens, and is a great film, really well done! We are excited to be a part of getting the word out about it. We were able to have our own Power FM premiere this past Wednesday in Grapevine, where we offered youth groups and Power Corps members a chance to come watch the movie with us. See a video that Adrian put together from that event here.

We also are going to be out in the Powermobile tonite at a public premiere of the movie at the Premiere Cinemas in Burleson (put on by the Church at Burleson).

The actors came by the studio this morning and Chris and Dawn had a chance to chat with them. And our buddy, Matt Mungle, did a Friday morning movie review on it as well. On Saturday, we had a Power FM Benefit Concert and Drue's Going Away party at The Center in Irving. It was a blast, the crowd was fun and the bands were awesome! Thanks to Theater of the Mind (Michael Fugitt and DJ Drue Mitchell), Burning Yesterday, Luke Huch and Manic Drive for rockin' us!

The Sweet By and By, written by Sara Evans and Rachel Hauck

I am not normally much of a novel reader. I tend to stick with non-fiction, “Christian Living” or biography type books, but the fact that the lead character has the same name as me...and it was written by a musical artist, definitely caught my interest.

Sara Evans is known in the music world as a singer/song writer and multi-platinum recording artist, but she is now attempting to take on another form of art... as an author of a novel... actually several. The Sweet By And By is the first in a series and introduces the lead character, Jade, as she is preparing for what is supposed to be the happiest day of her life. Jade has seemingly succeeded to keep her dirty and painful past in the past, even from her fiance, up until just a matter of days before the couple unites in matrimony. Suddenly a flurry of memories, lies, pains and troubles are brought to the surface and despite Jade's best efforts, they must be dealt with including having her free-spirited, hippie mother around with her own secret to reveal. The story is tragically heart-breaking, but as Jade discovers herself and her faith... quickly turns to a sweet story of surrender and forgiveness.

As an author, Sara vividly describes the scenes, the emotions and the senses. You are taken through a wild ride of emotional highs and lows in this book, so be ready for it.

Drue's Top 10 of 2009

Here is my list of top picks for 2009. This is NOT definitive so these are just the records I like, I tried to listen to as much of the new releases as possible to have an objective list. I want to showcase the ones that really popped and stuck out to me marking the 'times' or just being great albums all the way through.

10. Showbread The Fear of God / it was really interesting to interview these guys live on PowerFM. They were actually LESS weird then I thought they would be, lol. This new album from them is awesome, reminds me of an era of punk and rock when it was really dangerous. I like how they use crazy themes in the record and the last song is a great worship song.

9. Move Merchants Move Merchants / this is a hip-hop record from ManChild of Mars Ill fame and my good friend from Keller, tx. DJ Sean P. I was totally shocked when Sean told me he was doing a record with ManChild, and he truly delivered on this project. Its a hip-hop record, through and through, I think they keep it fresh, yep, #freshlikeseanp.

8. Emery In Shallow Seas We Sail / Emery's last full length cd was ummmh, can I say it? Not good. BUT, when that EP came out that preceded this album, I was like, wait a minute, I think somebody is back in business. This record was one of the first albums I could listen to over and over again and I am so glad they are being more clear and more bold in their lyrics. The song Butcher's Mouth is one of the greatest song they have ever written, love it!

7. Hillsong United Across The Earth / I goto Fellowship Church and we sing a bunch of these songs every week. Theses guys are taking it to a new level with everything they have done. I like how listening to the cd makes the songs more real and personal when we sing them in church on the weekends.

6. Sareem Poems Black and Read All Over / this guy is a card carrying member of the L.A. Symphony crew. He changed his name and got real serious about his hip-hop. I think he has come into a great sound as an artist and come light years since his last solo release. You want real hip/hop, skip the lecrae, get this.

5. Owl City Ocean Eyes / This came out of nowhere. All the music blogs I read say this guy is a biter of the postal service or secret handshake, but I think that twist he has on the this style is really fun. He is a bold Christian artist and if you look on his myspace you can totally tell. There was an awesome buzz about this album and I know for years I will look back on and remember as one of the ones to mark these times we are in now.

4. Flyleaf Momento Mori / Ok, do I really need to explain this? We did have to wait a little bit for this record, but the band totally delivered. Seeing them in Las Vegas w/ 20K people was an amazing experience. This new record is so good, I'm proud of this Texas band.

3. Rootbeer Pink Limousine / This is a project from Pigeon John & Flynn Adam of L.A. Symphony that sounds NOTHING anything either of them have ever done. Its in a class by itself and the quality and creativity in this is above the par so don't sleep on it. Watch them in 2010, I promise, big things.

2. Thrice Beggers / this band has really become one of the flagship bands of the decade. I think this album just speaks volumes about how far they have come in their catalog. I like the textures and lyrics the most, one listen is not going to get it, you have to sit down with this one.

1. U2 No Line On The Horizon / as a professional broadcaster for over 10 years now, NEVER have I seen anything like what happened surrounding this record and the single PowerFM played. I had to step back from my job and really let God work on me to forgive the mis-lead people that had believed the lies about this wonderful band that has put out their most 'Christian' album, ever. This is their best record start to finish the band has done since Achtung Baby.

End of the Year Wrap-Up

Power FM had a big year... we celebrated our 10th Anniversary of being on the air back in August. We had a great party, have had several other fabulous events and fun guests in through out the year. On a more personal level, several members of our staff had big years as well!

Three of our employees became engaged (uh... not to each other, of course)! Adrian asked Kayla to marry him and they plan to be wed in October of 2010 (plus he just graduated from UNT this semester!). Email asked his girlfriend, Alison, to be his bride. And Little Herbie popped the question and got a 'yes' from Skyler! Congratulations to our guys for landing the girls of their dreams!!! On a similar note, Drue and Eimi celebrated their one-year wedding anniversary in October!

Several of our promotions staff members went through job changes in 2009, and thankfully stayed on with us in the meantime. Bianca quit her full-time job to pay more attention to school and pursue some other passions including writing and photography! Leslie left a stressful position at a corporate office for a more ministry-minded organization. Wes was able to leave a job he did not enjoy so much for a job he is really loving! And he is helping to take care of his 5-year-old nephew on a full-time basis.

Rachel is excited that she's spent three full years working at Power FM and TBN/JCTV. She says, "Both jobs have provided me with incredible opportunities to meet and interview very talented people. The highlight of my year was interviewing the Newsboys at Celebrate Freedom because not only was it the freaking Newsboys, but the lead singer is now officially Tait of DC Talk fame, and seeing two greats 5 feet in front of me answering any question I asked was pretty stinkin' cool. Seeing MuteMath, Switchfoot, and Ferry Corsten all in concert again this year rounded it out, and I cannot wait for what 2010 has to offer! Maybe an engagement of my very own? !!! LOL."

Powertalk host, Rick Walker, is half way through law school!

We've done some rearranging at the front desk of our office this year. Tiffany and Flossie have moved on, and Elizabeth has moved in to answer your phone calls in the afternoons. She recently graduated from Baylor... go Bears!

And as for me (Jade), the latter half of 2009 was spent getting over morning (all-day!) sickness and watching my waistline expand. My second son is due to be born March 4th, 2010... so I definitely have that to look forward to this New Year!

Congratulations to Flossie, Shea and Manoah on the arrival of their new family member this morning...

Jaelon Michael was born today,
Wednesday, December 16th at 12:33am,
7 lbs, 15oz and 19.5 inches long.

Mommy and baby are doing well!

Flossie was our morning office manager, and left us at Thanksgiving because the baby was due soon. And now he's here! We're very excited for the O'Riley family and their new bundle of joy!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Tomorrow kicks off one of my favorite holidays, Thanksgiving! I love Thanksgiving so much, not JUST BECAUSE of the food (though that definitely helps), but because it's such a great reminder of the way we should be all the time... thankful for what we have, what we've had, what we will have. We should have grateful spirits no matter the situation, there's always something to praise God for! I know that for a lot of people, this year has been rough, the economy has not been our friend, etc... but in all things give Him praise.

I pray that as you sit and enjoy your Thanksgiving dinner with your family and friends tomorrow, you hold on to that spirit of gratefulness... you express your thanks to your family, your friends, your co-workers, those that have given of themselves to make this world what it is, but also to God... for He is the one who has blessed us continually in all things.

I know that there are people who do not have the opportunity to spend this precious holiday with their family or friends. The Almost at Best Buy

The other night I was in the middle of the All Request Show when Joel the Intern mentioned that The Almost updated on their twitter that they were going to be in Dallas for a in-store acoustic performance at Best Buy. I made plans the next day to attend and was one of 60 people to catch the acoustic performance before they played at the House of Blues in Dallas.

The Almost performed songs off of their sophomore album entitled Monster Monster. One of which was the single Hands which we play here on Power FM. I caught some video of it for you to watch and see. The show itself was a very cool opportunity to hang with the band and watch while they perform songs acoustic. From the video you can see that I was very close to the front. The Hope Tour comes through Power FM

Following up on Drue's last blog, this past Friday was CRAZY for me... we had three different bands in the studio within a three-hour span! We go weeks, sometimes months, without getting an artist in the building with us... then BOOM... all at once. All three bands on The Hope Tour stopped by to chat with me during my shift on Friday and it was a blast!

First I spoke with Abandon about their new record, Searchlights, their name (not to be confused with Abandon Kansas) and all kinds of silly stuff. They were so much fun!

Then Fireflight risked their lives to come and hang out with me in the studio. They were actually in a car accident on the way to the studio, and were pretty shaken up. We caught up with them about their soon-to-be-released CD.

And finally, two of the guys from Remedy Drive stopped in and allowed me to geek out all over them. I love those guys and their music, so I might have made a bit of a fool of myself with 'em, but they were sweet anyway. They hung out after the interview and talked for a while about future plans.

I was super exhausted after that full day of interviews, but my goodness was it fun!

MuteMath @ Palladium

When I got to the Palladium Ballroom, the opening band, As Tall As Lions, was already on stage and totally jamming out. Only later did I find out there was no singing because the lead vocalist Dan Nigro was sick. So there they were on stage, not saying a word, but keeping the audience engaged with their funky jazz sound. I overheard someone put it very well as saying they were a MuteMath and Miles Davis mash-up. They played til 8:45, and MuteMath took the stage at 9:20 by simply walking on and starting the show.

The first thing to happen, as any MuteMath follower will know, is Darren the drummer stands in the front of the stage and enthusiastically ducktapes his headphones to his head. Why? Because he just plays THAT hard.

They kicked off the night with "The Nerve", one of the songs off their latest album Armistice. And if you've seen the album cover, then you can picture the set piece they had at the back of the stage that resembles half of a Stargate. *A great picture and another concert review can be found at Shady Little Road's website run by our very own Bianca ad Donielle.* The half moon video screen had flashing, color-changing lights, and during each song you would see things projected on the screen such as old movie clips during "You Are Mine", bubbles and blurry street lights ("Clipping"), and overhead video feeds of the drums, keys, and xylophone ("Goodbye"). Not as impressive as the multiple screens which were closer behind them when they played at House of Blues last year, but still a cool added effect that didn't take away from what was going on with the guys on stage. Well, how could it with how utterly fascinating these guys are to watch?

The coolest stunt pulled that night involved Darren drumming on video screen circles held by stagehands. While he hit the screens with his drumsticks, a prerecorded drum track played, and each hit was accompanied by a light flashing on the circle and the flying off screen. Sort of guitar hero-ish. And absolutely mesmerizing.
Other amazing things done by Darren: Singing into a megaphone, hitting the symbol so hard it flies off (twice), pouring a bottle water all over himself and his drum set, standing on his drums, turning the keyboard into a drum set, and best of all, climbing on a piece of his drum set held up by the audience and falling backwards into the crowd letting them crowd surf him back to the stage. This guy leaves you breathless the whole show and most people can't even take their eyes off of him.

But it's not just the drummer that's all over the stage. The bassist frequently switches from electric bass to upright to handheld keyboard, the guitarist goes from electric guitar to effects board (played as an instrument!) to xylophone on a whim, and lead singer Paul Meany plays two keyboards (three if you count the KEYTAR!!) and his other-wordly theremin which he lets the audience play during the encore performance of "Reset".

Meany was humble the entire night, not saying anything more than "thank you" a few times and introducing the band members mid-show minus himself. He also turned the mic to the audience for "Spotlight" and bowed to us during the lyrics "now you're one of us/oh the spotlight is on".

The band is incredible live and I suggest you check out their Myspace pics to see all this stuff I'm not doing justice by trying to put into words.

Any show where at the end the lead singer does hand stands on the keyboards, accidentally flips all the way over and gives the audience an I-meant-to-do-that smile, and the drums are in a wet, broken heap, I believe a good time was had by all. :)

Hello, Hey, Howz it goin'?!?! Its me, the Druezilla coming to the blog-o-sphere to update you on what REALLY has been going down. So grab a sippy cup like Harvey's got on TMZ, and listen up! Well, we have had some serious artist traffic in the studio as of late. The first guest I would like to talk about is the legendary loud rock/metal band PROJECT 86.

When I was in radio & living in Los Angeles, Ca. circa 2000, I was putting together a show that played only loud hard rock/metal bands. I got a submission from PROJECT 86 for the single 'One-Armed Man' from the Drawing Black Lines album. We loved them, and played the fire outta that song on the show!! In fact I went to go see them on that tour open for Megadeth at the House of Blues on Sunset Blvd., it was pretty awesome. Now almost a decade later they have still got the fire and fury they had even back then, and they are currently touring the latest release Picket Fence Cartel, so as they rolled through the Dallas/FTW area, we got to have them on the show live and catch up. Turns out Andrew Schwab lead singer of the band has another book coming out very soon, and be on the look out for some really cool music videos from the songs off the new record to drop very soon.

Next up to bat, is not my L.A. Dodgers, its KJ-52!!!!

KJ was in town to play with a very interesting individual who actually is a Dallas local, give it up for former President of the United States, George W. Bush. I bet its a trip opening for someone like that. But KJ and I got to sit down live on the afternoon drive show and chat it up. On a side note about KJ, when I dedicated my life to Christ in 2002, KJ-52's album Collaborations was one of the first 10 Christian cds I got, so that album means a BUNCH to me. KJ is no slouch, he has been consistently releasing albums and remixes ever since I first heard of him in '02. Last time I saw KJ was at the GMA's in the hallway of the Tooth & Nail interview rooms. I was on tour w/ Manafest, he and KJ recorded a pretty funny 'white rapper' PSA. You can see it on KJ's youtube channel. The new project from Five-Tweezie, is called Five Two Television, a concept album that has an underlying story that runs through the whole record and ends in a cliff hanger like a good episode of Lost or Heroes. We got to play a few songs from the new album and he talked about the mixtape that is included in the packaging of the new cd.

Finally, as you know I can't go 3 minutes without talking about my favorite Canadian, MANAFEST. I'm gonna be bouncing to Northern Cali. in November to rock 2 shows w/ him out there. He is coming around the bend on finishing up his new album and as soon as we can, I will try to get him to world premiere some of it on PowerFM. Of course he will also have to be in DFW area to do something like that and infact he is going to be here soon. Coming up in December, he and I have several shows confirmed and the details will posted on the bulletin board soon. If you have NOT seen me DJ live with MANAFEST, this will be a true Christmas treat, you might get to hear a new song live in the set. So to my PowerCorps members I want to say a big 'ol thank you, and sharathon hasn't even started yet, but you are the backbone of the station and I know that the seeds are being planted from what you have sown.

Keep up the good work even if its hard, and we will keep reaching people for Jesus with the ministry of amazing modern Christian music, so mad respects from: Drue Mitchell.

It really DOES exist!

This past weekend, my family and I met up with some friends at a cabin on Lake Texoma. We just wanted to get out of town, sit around, eat (A LOT) and play games. That's what we did. It was awesome. One of the coolest things, though, had nothing to do with the cabin, the lake or our friends! On our way to the cabin, we passed by the infamous Power FM semi-trailer!

Ok, infamous to us anyway. Did you know about this thing? A while back a rad listener put the giant letters and logo on his truck. And simply by driving around, he promotes the station. Now, just a few weeks ago I was having a conversation with someone about this very truck and how we hadn't had any recent sightings reported (we would get calls going "Uh... yeah, I was just driving and this bright orange semi went past me... and it said POWER FM ON IT!"). Well, my husband, my son and I were just driving along, on Hwy 82 near Whitesboro, about to head North on Hwy 377... when I spotted it. I think I startled my husband, yelling "THE POWER FM TRUCK IS RIGHT THERE!" Haha. Anyway, I thought it was cool to track it down and to know it's still out there, promoting the station. On the way back home we stopped to snap a picture of it, just to prove that... y'know... it does exist!

Pop-Up Banner, take two

Ok, so you guys know how excited we were about our new Pop-Up Banner back in July, right? If not, read this blog/watch this video first. Ok, so we were excited about it. Well, after a few times (like, literally two times) after pulling it up and down from it's frame, the graphic began to flake off. After about four times, it stopped standing up straight. Six times... it ripped nearly in half. We were being gentle, we were taking extra special care of it... and it STILL did that. Needless to say, we were a little less excited about it by then. Dawn contacted the guy who got it for us, told him all about what happened after six uses... he said he would look into it with the manufacturer he got it from.

Turns out, the particular pop-up banner we had was really only meant to be used 1-2 times, then thrown away. WHAT?!?! No where did it tell us (or the guy who we ordered it through) anything like that. We weren't happy. The manufacturer ended up apologizing and making us a deal, giving us what was supposed to be the best quality pop-up banner they make for a great price to appease us and make up for their mistake. So, yesterday morning it came in. We were all, once again, super excited to open it up and try it out. Here's video of what happened...

Yes, seriously! It took Chris, Dawn, Jade, Eddie and Flossie to get this thing up... and the poll is too long, it will not latch on no matter what we do. We took the poll from the other ("disposable") banner and it fits fine, but is kind of thin. The new poll is more heavy duty, but too long. This is our luck, people. This is what happens to us. Haha! Anyway, we are working on getting that resolved and/or just sawing the poll off a little to get it to fit. But now we're pretty determined not to get excited over a pop-up banner... it's just not worth it.

Barlow Girl & Superchick Concert

This past Wednesday the Powermobile headed out to Decatur, TX to catch the Barlow Girls and Superchic(k) in action. After a long drive, an unplanned detour to what I can only describe as the future home of the next Jurassic Park, we made it to Decatur’s First Baptist church. After unloading the powermobile and setting up our merch table, we were ready to rock!

The show was kicked off by a wonderful MC (AKA MYSELF), and introducing two very inspirational bands was such an honor. Superchic(k) then stormed the stage and transformed the teens of Decatur into a group of wild rockers. Superchic(k) put on an energetic and very fashionable show. Superchic(k) showcased some of their hits including Hey Hey, Stand in the Rain and their newest single Cross The Line; however, they did not sing their Barlow Girl song.

After a very special appearance by a graduate of the Mercy Ministries recovery program, it was Barlow Girls turn to take the stage, and rock the faces of Decatur, TX. The band has spent their career challenging young girls to stand for purity, and not be silent about their faith, and we totally thing they ROCK. They started their set with “Come Alive” which is exactly what the crowd did. These three sisters spent the next 45 minutes glorifying the Lord through song and empowering the youth of the church to be loud and proud of their Faith. Oh and if you get the chance to try the new Barlow Girl coffee do, it tastes great and all the proceeds benefit Mercy Ministries.

All in all it was an amazing evening spent in fellowship with other Christians with a pension for rock.

On Friday night, something dreadful and unexpected happened here in the Power FM building. We're not exactly sure how it happened, but the building flooded because of a sewer line issue... there was standing water everywhere (thought thankfully it didn't reach the studio equipment and most of KVTT's area is fine too). Poor Stan, David and Eddie were up here at midnight on Saturday morning, cleaning and drying out the place as best they could. Now it's Tuesday, and the giant industrial-sized blowers and dehumidifiers are STILL blasting through the building. And let me tell you, they are loud! This is the THIRD time this building has been flooded. The first time was the great storm right before the station was to launch in 1999. Then there was another plumbing issue, and now this one. Yikes!

P.S. Ignore the "Bigfoot" sighting at the end... we're pretending that didn't happen. =)

Bianca gets baptized!

Last night my best friend, Donielle, and I were baptized. It was the most unbelievably emotion thing I have ever been through, and I have so little words to express how blessed I really am. When some friends of ours started a bible study last year, I had no idea how we would all soon morph into this oversized family. When this bible study started I had been saved for over three years, but I had still yet to be baptized, I did not even have a home church. However, when the talks of a group baptism started, I knew this is what I had been waiting for. We waited months and months to lay out the perfect date and time because of so many different schedules, but finally last Sunday we learned that the date was set, and my nerves finally set in.

This past week has seemed like the longest week for me. It is now that I can sit back and realize that it was my mind and soul preparing myself for this baptism. When Sunday morning came around I had a sudden urge to clean. I cleaned my room, my house and even busted out an apricot scrub. HA-HA. I was so nervous; I was doing so much to pass the time.

At the church it was almost surreal. I was filled with butterflies. I was so afraid. My sister took me to the side and she prayed for me. Then her, Donielle and I went to a private room and had a group prayer. I prayed for everyone who was getting baptized to let their old self go and embrace their new self. I told God I was giving myself to him and then I managed to let out a very soft I love you because I was overwhelmed with my own tears.

The baptism began with our pastor Eric Patrick talking about our group. Then I was so blessed to have my favorite singer Lacey from Flyleaf with her husband lead us in praise and worship. It was very special for me to have the singer who’s music introduced me to the love of God sing at my baptism. Lacey is so anointed in the spirit of God, and the music really hit me spiritually as well.

Finally I along with my best friend Donielle, our friend Rachel, Becky, Dustin and Eric M. walked up to the tub with our pastor. One by one we were emerged in water as Lacey and Joshua sang my absolute favorite worship song “How He Loves Us”. I watched everyone get dunked, and it was so special to see these people I love get baptized.

After the baptism we ate and had fellowship together. It was amazing, and the time went by so fast that we were all lingering the parking lot not wanting to go home.

I spent so many years not wanting to understand the actual point of a physical baptism. But, today I get it. I feel like a new person. I feel amazing!

Fearless = Fear Less

A review of Fearless, written by Max Lucado.

Max Lucado’s new book covers a subject that everyone deals with on a daily basis: Fear. We are all afraid of something… spiders, snakes, heights… but also rejection, taking risks, failure, letting down our guard, losing someone we love, the unknown. Lucado does it again with his new book entitled Fearless from Thomas Nelson. He, as usual, knows how to put things in perspective, in plain English... knows how to help us find what’s been staring us in the face all along. As a Christian, what do we have to fear?

It’s almost trite to say it anymore, but if God is in control, why do we worry at all? We can’t help ourselves, it’s a built-in reaction. The people in the Bible worried. The disciples in that little boat on the raging, stormy sea… they were scared to death even with Jesus right there with them. If they can be afraid with Jesus within 5 feet of them, of course we can be afraid when we don’t feel Jesus is close. But, God is ALWAYS close. And He is never shaken, never surprised, never worried.And in that, we should take comfort.

Lucado covers may areas of fear: not mattering, violence, death, not knowing, doubt and more. These are the very things that we, as humans, struggle with every single day. Lucado acknowledges these fears, but also that it’s unreasonable to live in complete fear when God has given us hope and a promise. Faith is what we should live by… not fear.

I always enjoy reading what Max Lucado has to say, and this book does not change that opinion in the slightest. In this book, he encourages me to take steps to get over my fears and live the life God has in store for me!

Alright, so after 10 days on the beach I am back!! I missed being and hanging out on the show with you so it felt good to be back! We did a ton of stuff while I was gone. Everything from cliff diving to a Luau to hiking through the jungle, and even swimming with sharks. Here is a little video I put together from the trip. Enjoy it! Wow, so much to say! Thanks to everyone that came out to celebrate our 10th year of broadcasting on Saturday at The Neotropolis in Carrollton. The party was so much fun! We had a great size crowd, awesome bands, wonderful volunteers and great time!

HAPPY 10th BIRTHDAY, POWER FM!

On this date, August 3rd, in 1999... Power FM signed on the air! That's right, today is our official birthday. Matt Mungle rejoined Chris and Dawn this morning on The Morning Show to reminisce and play back some hilarious blasts from the past. And Jade spent the noon hour flashing back with all songs from the year 1999.

We plan to celebrate with YOU, on Saturday, August 15th at our 10th Anniversary Bash at The Neotropolis in Carrollton. They'll be something for everyone there! We're having a concert by The Afters, Radio Revival and Llymbo, plus our very own DJ Drue Mitchell will be scratchin' and spinnin' as well. Most of the staff will be on hand to hang out and meet you.

We'll also be unveiling our brand new 10th Anniversary Summer-Series T-Shirt that evening, they will be available on location as well! We're really excited about this one, and think you're gonna love it as well!

Tim Hawkins make us laugh!

Dawn, Flossie and I (Jade), plus our families got to enjoy the comedy of Tim Hawkins on Saturday at Trietsch Memorial UMC in Flower Mound. We are big fans. Every time he puts something new out on youtube or whatever, we all gather around the computer and watch it, then watch it over and over until everyone in the office has seen it. It's really quite ridiculous... but he's just SO funny. So, we were really excited when he was coming to town and we got to give away tickets on the air... and got some for ourselves so we could go too!

I didn't manage to get many good pictures. I couldn't hold my camera still from laughing so hard!

So, I just finished the, 'Adventures of Mana & Mitchell' tour of East Texas/Louisiana. It was a killer run of shows dj'ing for my main emcee Mr. Manafest. I tried to Twitter the tour follow me at: twitter.com/djdruemitchell. We saw TONS of kids come to know Christ each night and made some killer new friends. We didn't get to see any alligators, but I heard they like to eat Canadians(*Mana is from Toronto), but we did get in some skating, saw Transformers II and I found a interesting little record store called 'Twin City Records' in Monroe, LA. This tour Mana was writing a bunch for his NEW cd's (*that is right, plural meaning more than one), which will be out Spring 2010. The 2009 Warped Tour is coming to my town this week. I am bummed that I had to miss Cornerstone this year, but it was for a good cause (*touring w/ a Tooth & Nail recording artist). Some reason the Warped Tour is always in town when I am at Cornerstone, I have to say I am super stoked and looking forward to seeing: Underoath, Thrice, The Devil Wears Prada and Ivoryline. I wish there were MORE Christian acts on the freakin' Warped Tour. Back in March I broke down and subscribed to AP Magazine, and I have been reading and following the wind up to Warp. I'm always shocked each month of the amount of coverage and advertisements from Christian bands in that secular magazine. Well, I have a boat load of PowerFM & Manafest stickers I am gonna be passing out while I am at the Warped Tour, want one come find me.
Plus I hope to snag some interviews while I am there. Help represent Christian music in the secular realms, get involved, email feedback, flyer for the shows, & support local music retailers!

Big Cat Care.Org

Last Sunday I had the opportunity to go hang with a friend at Big Cat Care in Bridgeport Texas.

This is a non profit facility that houses Tigers, Lions, and any other cat that is considered endangered or exotic. I was blown away by how amazing this facility is! Not only did these cats receive top notch care but this facility is literally in our backyard. What a cool volunteer opportunity for someone who had a passion and heart to help endangered animals. The facility gives tours on the weekend and you can find more information at www.bigcatcare.org

I took the pictures below of all the animals from the facility. They had about 24 different types of cats at the facility. If you have time take a Saturday afternoon set up a tour and go check and see the positive things these people are doing!

Collin Classic Ride '09

Saturday June 13 a few of us in the Power FM cycling group participated in the Collin Classic bicycle ride in McKinney and even fewer of us volunteered at break point #6, the Power FM rest stop. We were able to have the Power-mobile parked at our break point with speakers blaring the wonderful sounds of the station. It was a great way to advertise the station to a segment of people who want some music with a lot of energy. So a big thanks to Wes from our promotions department and the five individuals who sacrificed sleeping in on a Saturday morning to work the station rest stop and serve the riders. Those of us riding experienced more inquiries and shout outs because of our jerseys than ever. It makes sense, after all statistics show that our listenership has grown to over a hundred thousand. So thanks to efforts like the billboards, bumper stickers, power gear, and you verbally spreading the word of the station all equal to more listeners and more hearts touched for the Kingdom.

Seeing RED Contest

We held a Seeing RED contest where we asked people to send in a picture of themselves incorporating the color red. We got some really great entries, but the winner was Heather from Frisco. You can see her entry and many more here. She won lunch with the band and tickets to their show this evening!

The guys from RED came by the studio before the lunch and hung out with me for a few minutes. We got to chat with them on the air and catch up a little. Then they headed out to Dave & Busters to eat and play games with Heather and Power Corps Members, Mike and Beth.

Sounds like they all had a really great time this afternoon! RED and Since October will be performing tonite at The Prophet Bar in Dallas.

Drue and I were talking the other day about what makes us "geek out." Working in this business, we meet a lot of people - listeners, other radio peeps, bands, musicians, celebrities - and sometimes it can become somewhat... routine (as terrible as that sounds). But then, there are those times when we run across someone we have always loved/looked up to, or we find ourselves in funny situations that lead us to (as we call it) "geek out." Ok, it happens more often that we'd like to admit, but we discussed some of our favorite "geek out" moments, and asked the rest of the staff to chime in as well. Here are some of the responses to the question, "Who DID you geek out over or who WOULD you geek out over given the opportunity?" ...

Dawn said: I’ve actually shared this with some already, in connection with the movie, The Imposter... I find it funny that Chris and I have interviewed some really awesome people in the Christian Rock industry; from Brian “Head” Welch and Toby Mac to Michael Sweet and Oz Fox. And I was thrilled to meet authors Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker, whose books I devour. But the person that really made me “geek out” was Kerry Livgren, formerly of Kansas. “Dust in the Wind” and “Carry On Wayward Son” still take me back to bittersweet memories of riding down the road in my parents lemon-yellow Dodge Dart with the windows down… I got the chance to meet Kerry when he played the part of “Prof” in The Imposter. The director introduced us and I just stood there, grinning like a cat saying something brilliant like, “ Wow….wow; wow” Not one of my finer moments.

Adrian said: I geek out every time I walk into the studio and Drue Mitchell is on the microphone...one time I went to talk to him and nothing came out I just ended up drooling all over myself...hehe. umm, I am a big fan of the band MuteMath. I have seen them five times in concert and I still get all excited about seeing them perform. One time I drove to Austin with Email to go watch them perform at Stubb's. For the record, I am not fond of approaching bands after shows because I always feel like its forced conversation that 10 million other people have told them. To me that is weird and uncomfortable, I would much rather have an interview set up. So, despite that I decided because it was MuteMath I would force through the awkward conversation and go up after the show to ask for an autograph. After the show was over with I went up to the band, however I couldn't think of anything to say. It was pretty pathetic, I was thinking to myself I shouldn't be like this because I am in radio and radio people are not supposed to be nervous around bands. However that was not the case, all I did was stand there with a cd in one hand and a sharpie in the other. I ended up getting the autograph but there was definitely a long awkward pause's of silence.

David said: I geeked out when I met Jessy from Falling Up when we went to Nashville… it was pretty funny.

Wes said: I did when I met Demon Hunter. I met them last year at thier concert. I was very nervous and studdered a whole lot and when I took pics with them my face flushed cause I was so excited. Also, when I had met Marion Barber. I was at the gym getting water and he was standing there. So I said look that's Marion barber and he walked over to me and stuck out his hand to introduce himself. Instead saying hello the first words out of my mouth were "I Love You. " He laughed and I tried to explain how I meant it but he said " it's cool, I love it when fans tell me that." I kind of embarassed myslrf but hey I love the cowboys and I am willing to say that I'd probably tell every single person on the team the exact same thing.

Amanda said: Well...I've geeked out over Mac Powell to other people, but haven't had the chance to geek out to Mac Powell :) I've geeked out to the lead singer of Augustana (one of my favorite bands), Dan Layus, but I don't think very many people know who he is. It was a beautiful moment actually :)

Head Concert Recap

On May 19th I was able to attend a concert that I have been waiting for about 4 or 5 years to see. I have blogged about this artist a couple of times, and he has done a couple of interviews on Power Fm in the last couple of years. His name is Brian Head Welch, or Head as he goes by. He performed for the first time in Dallas since leaving the band Korn a few years ago when he became a Christian. I have talked in previous blogs that I was really into Korn when I was in highschool an then after I graduated as well. I became a christian in 2001 and shortly after that, before I found Power FM, I stopped listening to secular music because I was being influenced to much by the lyrics and message of that music, which means I stopped listening to Korn as well. Then I heard that Head had become a Christian and I was so stoked and from that day patientally waited for his music and a concert. I mean a guy that was in one of the biggest bands of the 90s, the time I was growing up, now was in love with Jesus and it would not be bad for me to like his music.

Finally last year his CD, Save me from myself, dropped and I was given the oppurtunity to meet him and talk to him. That made me even more eager for what took place at the Door.
He started out the show with Adonai, a song we play at night. As the show progresses he talked about his conversion and how he wanted to share Christ with others. The longer he played the more I started feeling the spirit going through the place.

He played the song, Save me from myself and after he was done, he asked anyone who needed a change who beeded escape from something to raise thier hands. Then he started praying, not just a regular prayer, a powerful one full of the Spirit, he said repeat after me. "Jesus Christ, I need change I need you in my life. Please come!" He was basically yelling this powerful prayer and asked people that needed change to repeat it. As this took place I almost started crying, especially as the audience was repeating the prayer. I was blown away.

His show was a metal praise service. I haven't felt the spirit that heavily at a metal show ever.
I suggest anyone who loves metal to get his CD and also read his book, both of which are named Save me from myself. Heck anyone who does really like metal should as well. Listen with spiritual ears and you will hear God.

That show was the best show I have seen in a year. I will definately be at the next show he plays in Dallas and I suggest anyone who wasn't there to check him out. You won't be disappointed if you open yourself to be spoken to by the Holy Spirit.

Today is National Day of Prayer!

1/2 Boy, 1/2 Man

The average age of the military man is 19 years. He is a short haired, tight-muscled kid who, under normal circumstances is considered by society as half man, half boy. Not yet dry behind the ears, not old enough to buy a beer, but old enough to die for his country. He never really cared much for work and he would rather wax his own car than wash his father's, but he has never collected unemployment either.

He's a recent High School graduate; he was probably an average student, pursued some form of sport activities, drives a ten year old jalopy, and has a steady girlfriend that either broke up with him when he left, or swears to be waiting when he returns from half a world away. He listens to rock and roll or hip-hop or rap or jazz or swing and a 155mm howitzer. He is 10 or 15 pounds lighter now than when he was at home because he is working or fighting from before dawn to well after dusk. He has trouble spelling, thus letter writing is a pain for him, but he can field strip a rifle in 30 seconds and reassemble it in less time in the dark. He can recite to you the nomenclature of a machine gun or grenade launcher and use either one effectively if he must. He digs foxholes and latrines and can apply first aid like a professional. He can march until he is told to stop, or stop until he is told to march. He obeys orders instantly and without hesitation, but he is not without spirit or individual dignity. He is self-sufficient. He has two sets of fatigues: he washes one and wears the other. He keeps his canteens full and his feet dry. He sometimes forgets to brush his teeth, but never to clean his rifle. He can cook his own meals, mend his own clothes, and fix his own hurts. If you're thirsty, he'll share his water with you; if you are hungry, his food. He'll even split his ammunition with you in the midst of battle when you run low. He has learned to use his hands like weapons and weapons like they were his hands. He can save your life - or take it, because that is his job. He will often do twice the work of a civilian, draw half the pay, and still find ironic humor in it all. He has seen more suffering and death than he should have in his short lifetime.

He has wept in public and in private, for friends who have fallen in combat and is unashamed. He feels every note of the National Anthem vibrate through his body while at rigid attention, while tempering the burning desire to 'square-away ' those around him who haven't bothered to stand, remove their hat, or even stop talking. In an odd twist, day in and day out, far from home, he defends their right to be disrespectful. Just as did his Father, Grandfather, and Great- grandfather, he is paying the price for our freedom. Beardless or not, he is not a boy. He is the American Fighting Man that has kept this country free for over 200 years.

He has asked nothing in return, except our friendship and understanding. Remember him, always, for he has earned our respect and admiration with his blood. And now we even have women over there in danger, doing their part in this tradition of going to War when our nation calls us to do so. As you go to bed tonight, remember this shot.. . . A short lull, a little shade and a picture of loved ones in their helmets.

GMA Blah Blog

April 17th thru the 24th was my turn to go to Nashville, Tennessee for GMA (Gospel Music Association). It was a blast. I attended a lot of classes intended to help be a better manager of the station, so I hope I learned something. But it was the music entertainment that was so much fun. Every lunch had a showcase of entertainment and every evening you could find something to do. So here is a list of my top 10 highlights:

10) Running into the guys from Manic Drive.
9) Talking to Mac Powell from Third Day.
8) While checking my email at the internet café, I ended up being next to worship leader Billy Buchanan of Fusebox. It was good to catch up with Billy.
7) Meeting Justin Unger who was in the band Across The Sky. Justin is a worship leader now. I told him how much I liked the song “Give It All Away” and how it fit our share-a-thon message well.
6) Going to see local girl Eimi Hall perform in Downtown Nashville. Then hanging out with and going to Burger King with local girl Eimi Hall and Daniel Rosas who played guitar in GS Megaphone.
5) Talking with Sanctus Real at the DJ/Artist reception
4) Talking with Barlow Girl at the DJ/Artist reception, seeing Barlow Girl host a lunch, and then seeing them perform in a private setting (they probably thought I was stalking them but the truth was there was free Chick-fil-a at the private setting).
3) Hearing new band Press Play at lunch.
2) Seeing old time rocker David Huff from David And The Giants and finding out his son plays guitar in Press Play.
1) Going with Daniel Rosas to the Stryper listening party. Michael Sweet played a few of the tracts from the bands new project. IT IS GOING TO ROCK!

This is a heart-warming little story of a man named Jones. Not Mr. Jones, mind you..."just Jones." He was always old as far as anyone could remember, always carried a mysterious brief case and ALWAYS showed up exactly when someone needed him. Andrews tells of the first time meeting Jones. He was a young man, homeless and alone, living under a pier and what he needed, as pointed out by Jones, was just a little perspective to get his life on track. Andrews goes on to tell interesting tales of Jones' influence all throughout the small community where everyone, at some point, had an interaction with Jones that made a difference... saved a business, saved a marriage, saved a life. All because Jones had a way of helping with perspective, a way of making people realize it wasn't as bad as it looked, that they were still needed, that the little things do matter. The stories in this book are much like yours or mine, the people could be a friend or a neighborhood, the situations are all too familiar... but thanks to good 'ole Jones... if we just adjust our perspective a little, we get a taste of what's really important.

This book is short, very easy to read and sweet. Would make a great gift for a graduation senior (hey, who doesn't need perspective when you're about to face the "real world"), a mom or dad or someone facing an uncertain future.

The Noticer Project, inspired by this book, is a neat little idea to acknowledge the 5 most influential people in your life NOW (not when it's too late). You can learn more about that world-wide movement here.

The Unlikely Disciple: A Sinner's Semester At America's Holiest University
by Kevin Roos e

As soon as I heard about this book, I was excited to read it. A "secular" Brown University student wants to spend a semester "undercover" at a strictly conservative, Christian college? Just as I said when I reviewed Rapture Ready!, I enjoy hearing what "outsiders" think of the Christian bubble... especially (specifically) if they are willing to approach it with an open mind. And Kevin Roose does a fantastic job of approaching this subject with an open mind. Sure, he has his biases and his preconceived notions going in... but that was the whole purpose of this project... to get a firsthand look at things inside Liberty University and see if the Bible Boot Camp stereotype is fitting or not.

He's a brave man. Not many would go the lengths he went to, to actually enroll and spend a semester at Jerry Falwell's school and church, taking Bible classes, joining the Thomas Road Church Choir, having a face-to-face interview with the "Big Man on campus" himself... but Roose does, and does so successfully on all accounts. He makes friends, he learns the Bible and actually passes his classes with good grades, he scores a print interview with Falwell that goes on to be part of a special edition of the school's newspaper that is handed out at Falwell's funeral! He learns how to pray, though he still isn't sure if anyone is listening or if it makes a difference.

Roose uncovers the good and the bad of Liberty University, Jerry Falwell and Christian evangelicals in this book. He mulls over the differences between Christian students and secular students, discovers that the differences aren't always as vast as you'd think (which is good and bad), and finds himself actually, surprisingly enjoying his time at Bible Boot Camp. Roose even spends his Spring Break doing The Way of The Master style witnessing to other Spring Breakers at Daytona Beach... and survives to tell about it!

This is a fun, humorous read... Roose tells it like he sees it... and it's highly entertaining to see it through his eyes. He also points out things that I think a lot of Conservative/Evangelical/Bible-Thumpin' Christians oughta take a look at and take note of. I hope that the "opposite" side reads this book as well, though, and discovers what Roose learns during his experience, that we're not all "like that." Just as they're not all "like that" either.

Mysterious Fruit Smell... ???

One day our receptionist, Tiffany, turned to me and asked if I smelled Fruit Roll-Up. What, huh? No. Then a few minutes later, yes... actually, I do smell Fruit Roll-Up. Apparently for a few weeks she had noticed that the studio smelled like Fruit Roll-Up and every once in a while it would waft into the lobby area where our desks were. I went in to ask Drue if he was eating a Fruit Roll-Up or ... wearing fruity-smelling cologne (which, I don't think he appreciated, haha!)? He wasn't. I didn't really give it much thought after that. But a few days later it happened again... that fruity smell! And again, and again, and now I notice it nearly every day. It only happens in the afternoon (doesn't smell that way when I get here in the morning, or all during my shift - starts up around 4pm), smells strongest in the studio and I can't, for the life of me, pin down where it's coming from. Believe me, we've put our sniffers to work, trying to pinpoint the fruity origin.

So, today I'm sitting here, filling in for Drue and all of a sudden.... FRUITY SMELL! Out of no where. It's a mystery! I mean, at least it's a pleasant smell, not a mysterious offensive smell, right? Anyway, yes... this IS random, but I'm on a mission to find out what that Fruit Roll-Up smell is all about!

Ok, we have figured it out! Ok... actually, I have to give Chief Engineer credit for being as smart as he says he is... HE figured it out for me, when I explained the mysterious scent to him. The smell is Christina! Haha. Christina is an employee of the radio station down the hall, and she comes in during the afternoons. The air conditioner for the two main studios in this building are linked (to each other only), so that's why her Strawberry Patch Body Spray gets sucked up from her studio and sent to us down here in this studio at the other end of the building! Wow, mystery solved! I feel better knowing what's going on now! Haha.

It's been quite a day here at the station today. Chris & Eddie got to golf with author Max Lucado. Then this afternoon, all of a sudden a flurry of shiny red burst through the door carrying food. It was the Dallas Tap Dazzlers! They are out promoting Grandy's new Spicy Shrimp - and trust me, they were some spicy ladies. Just look at the pictures! They brought us and the other station in the building just TONS of food to try. Oh my goodness!

They did a little dance performance for us in the kitchen, and made Drue and I join in on a "toe-point" picture! Haha. Wow! It was incredibly random, I have to say, but soooo much fun to have a visit like that out of the blue. Certainly made my day a littlemore exciting!

What up!!! It's Adrian, I literally just got back from a really cool event in Hurst.
Power FM was apart of an event that raised money for Alex's Lemonade stand which is an organization benefiting pediatric cancer research. Mission Reality.Tv missionreality.tv was there as well filming footage of the event, which is another organization that partnered up with Alex's Lemonade Stand. A Rotterdam November introduces themselves...

A Rotterdam November made a visit to the studio on Friday. I was lucky enough (at least I think so) to be working on air for Drue when they came in. We had a chance to interview the guys, play two of their songs, and the guys even took some phone calls on air. The guys in this band have a great combination of musical talent, hearts for Christ, and a great sense of humor. I look forward to Power FM getting more music from them in the future and their next visit to North Texas (they'll be playing in Fort Worth on March 13th, check our Bulletin Board for more info).

Beyond Belief: Finding The Strength To Come Back by Josh Hamilton

I'm not much of a sports person... I don't make it a point to follow any of them regularly. But if I had to choose one, it'd be baseball. There was a time when I was pretty into it, I guess... I followed the Rangers closely for a season or two, became well acquainted with the players and all that. Then I moved on. I still going to a Rangers game every once in a while, and if there's nothing else on... I'll watch 'em on TV. The last few years we've been to a few games and I really didn't know any of the guys on the team... but there was one name that kept coming up: Josh Hamilton. What's up with this guy? What's his story? I knew it had to do with drug addiction, then making a comeback... and oh, what?... he's a very outspoken Christian too? Awesome!

I went and picked this book up the day AFTER Josh happened to have been in the store for a book signing (dang!). It was a present for my husband, but I knew I'd get around to reading it before he did. I was right. I'm not gonna lie... I kind of glossed over all the baseball stats and talk, but the root of the story... of Josh's testimony... was interesting. The gist of it - Josh grew up knowing he'd be in the big leagues, he was so talented that EVERYONE knew it, even at age seven. He moved up quickly through the ranks (even playing in leagues with guys WAY older than him to even out the talent) and found himself a first pick in the first round draft - a player's dream come true. As fast as Josh made his way up, he made his way down... after several injuries and having to sit out game after game, he began spending too much time with the wrong people, leading to drugs, alcohol and years of addiction.

Josh Hamilton should be dead. The stuff he put his body through, the situations he found himself in... the only reason he's alive is because, as his Mama said, "God must love baseball players." After dropping out of all the expensive, high society rehabs in the country, what saved Josh was... God. There's no other explanation possible. The details of his comeback are in the book, so you'll have to read it yourself... but it is rather miraculous that this man who should be dead was so quickly able (once he finally turned it over to God) to turn his life around so drastically, build his body back up and join a major league baseball team - and be an MVP. I mean, do you remember the Home Run Derby of 2008? Yeah, Josh has definitely been blessed with talent and skill and it's so great that he's using those for the Lord now.

This is a good read, don't let the baseball talk (if that's not your thing) drag you down... because Josh's testimony is amazing, and definitely inspiring.

We discussed what they had been up to and what they had coming up (they're working on writing some new stuff!) and the fact that they're going to be on a tour soon called The Skiing Is Believing Tour, but no skiing is actually involved... or is it? There were parts of the interview that were sheer chaos... but that's to be expected. It was definitely entertaining.

The band wanted to give away a pair of tickets to their show, and decided to make somebody work for it. They wanted to do a trivia question... since it was President's Day and had recently been Adam's birthday, they settled on "Who was President when Adam was born?"... only, they weren't sure of the answer themselves:

Last weekend Wes went out to Princeton High School for the Rockin' Winter Bash with WWC! and others. The Princeton Herald was also out there, and they published an article about the show. Here is part of that article...

Youth rock out at Christian concert

Friday night Fellowship Worship Center teamed up wtih the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and PowerFM to present a rock concert at Princeton High School. The concert began at 7 p.m. and blasted through 11 p.m., offering students the chance to hear five bands and to spend time with their friends while learning about Christ.

The idea for the first-ever Rockin’ Winter Bash was Josh Brown’s. As a youth worker at Fellowship he wanted to do something that was going to be different and that would attract a lot of the young people in Princeton.

“We want to reach the community in untraditional ways,” Brown said, “this wasn’t about the bands as much as being an outlet for everyone to come together.”

As a guitarist for two of the bands that performed, the Jesus Lovin’ Hobos and WWC (Whatever We’re Called), Brown used his musical ties and enlisted the help of PowerFM and the Princeton High School and Clark Junior High’s FCAs to make the idea both a reality and a success.

More than three hundred people attended the concert that featured Christian rap and rock music, as well as a dance team.

“The concert was good for a small place like Princeton, I was impressed by the number of people that came out to the show,” Wes Rogers said, who works for Power FM’s promotion team. He said, “It seemed like everyone was pretty excited to see the bands that performed. The crowd was great, seemed like they all were big Christian Rock fans.”

Chattin' with Soul Glow Activatur

I had the opportunity to chat with Soul Glow Activatur of Family Force 5 during the noon hour today. We learned that Australia has lots of animals that can kill you, New Zealanders talk fast, and FF5 is going to start work on a "ghetto krunk Christmas album" soon! The guys are in town for the Texas YCE Winterfest Conference, and they'll be performing tonite around 6pm at Arlington Convention Center if you're interested in catching the craziness that is Family Force 5. If you've never seen this band live, I highly recommend it... you may never be there same.

Pei Wei

Hey guys! Rachel here!

On Thursday night, I was invited to go to a special media-only presentation of Pei Wei's newest entree Thai Mango Chicken that will debut in its restaurants Monday, February 2nd.

It is described as a "light and flavorful dish that combines chicken, fresh mango, red bell peppers, spiced cashews, and Thai basil wok-seared and fresh-to-order in a tangy and tropical mango sauce topped with lime and cilantro". Doesn't your mouth start to water after reading that? =D

As soon as we got to the reserved table, we were met with big smiles and handshakes and personally greeted by Pei Wei's Director of Culinary Operations, Chef Eric Justice, straight out of their Arizona corporate offices. He certainly does his research before creating any dish, because he traveled to Thailand where he was "inspired by all the fresh fruits and chilies in the local markets."

They are pushing this new dish because it is their first to include fruit. (This was my first time to ever eat mango, by the way.)

Before the main course, we received appetizers, and between the delicious crab wontons, the always amazing lettuce wraps that they cut by hand daily, and the yummy spring rolls with peanut sauce, we nearly filled up before the real meal ever began!

Before the main dish was served, we were informed we would receive it in two different ways; "stock velvet" and fried. Stock velvet is a way that you can choose ANY dish in the restaurant to be served. It means they will just steam your protein of choice (beef, chicken, shrimp, etc) in vegetable stock instead of frying it in oil. This not only makes your meal healthier, but also brings out a bit more of the flavor. The table was split about half way over who liked the stock velvet or fried version more. While I certainly enjoyed the fried version of the new Thai Mango Chicken, I did prefer it the "stock velvet" way.

It was also suggested to us to try a few bites, and then squeeze the included lime wedge over the dish to see what other flavors it brought out. I felt very cultured at that point, but there was more to come! Not only were we to taste and see the difference between the two ways you can order it, we were also served a more salty, soy-based dish called Mongolian Beef. Once you took a bite of that, it did in fact make you realize just how many flavors were in the Thai chicken dish. However, the Mongolian beef almost stole the show for me. I'll be ordering that the next time I go to Pei Wei. :)

Not only can you specify if your dish will be stock velvet or fried, you can also customize it in almost any way that pleases you. Spicy, mild, any protein you choose, brown rice, white rice, more sauce, less sauce, veggies, no veggies. They are very pleased to say that their menu is highly customizable. So next time you go, don't be afraid to tell them exactly what you want. They will be happy to make it just as you request.

Another thing to note is that I'm usually very picky about peppers and fruits, and well, a whole lot of foods, but the Thai Mango Chicken was delicious. The only drawback I noticed was the fact that when it comes to spicy foods, I am a WIMP. I have had waitresses laugh at me over how hot I thought things were. So, wimps take note: Pei Wei's new entree is a hot one. I was reaching for my water many times. However, I seemed to be the ONLY person at the table who thought that way. So, if you happen to be one of the those so-called "normal" people, you should have no problem enjoying this dish to its fullest.

I just got back from Park City, Utah. I was there for some skiing and to hang with some friends, and catch some of the madness from the Sundance Film Festival. Wow, that festival is so wacky, celebrities walking around, lavish and lush parties and paparazzi all over the place. I did not see any screenings or go to any parties, I just ate good food, and did some shredding on skis.

I always let too much time get in between my random blogs where I just let it all out!!! There has been way way too much happen recently, so I have to drop some knowledge and science!! First, lets talk about the Spin 180 radio show and the Live music night 'Live in the Spin Lounge'. Recently, Seekers and I got together and talked about some of the things that have worked and have NOT worked for them. Well, due to the recent construction in front of the building and economic pressures they have had to cut but on the operating hours. Let me assure you that 'Live in the Spin Lounge' will continue on Tuesdays, and we have added something extra! Since, the success of night and the massive amounts of submissions I am getting, Seekers is going to host right before we rock the spot with spin180 an open-mic/karaoke! Starting January 27th @ 6:00p, if you want to sing or perform then head to Seekers and get signed up! Live in the Spin Lounge will still start at 8p, and we will feature -2- acoustic performances from KILLER Spin 180 artists! If you are old, or tired or just lame, no worries, its all over by 10:00p, so you can get home and have a warm glass of milk and get your binky and go to bed! Everything will be the same, just an added night and location. So, for those who can't bear to miss American Idol or have to wash you cat on Tuesdays, now we have a 'Live in the Spin Lounge' on Thursday nights as well!! Thursday February 5th @ 8:00pm we have acoustic performances from; 'calmdowncasey, & my heart's cry'. In 2002 I bought a second technics SL1200 turntable. That is the Gibson guitars or Ferrari of turntables. I have been working at becoming a turntablist ever since. I have dj'ed shows in North Carolina, Oklahoma, Houston, and at Cornerstone Festival. One of the things that led me to dj'ing was putting to use my massive music collection. I have some touring with Manafest coming up this Spring, and several wedding and party gigs already booked, but with all of that I do have some select openings and if you need a DJ, or you have friends who are having a prom, or graduation party, LET ME KNOW. There is a female singer/songwriter in the Dallas-area named; Eimi Hall. If you have ever heard her music or seen her live you know how talented and beautiful she is. I knew that as well, so I married her almost 4 months ago. She has some NEW material she has been working on and she has some pretty awesome gigs coming up. She will be 'Live in Spin Lounge' on February 24th with a band from Minneapolis, Mn. called;'Lazy Jake' and playing at the House of Blues Pontiac Garage on Friday February 13th with 'The Early Republic' & 'Mothers Anthem'. I think that when we stretch our hands towards the sky using our voices and instruments to praise Him, then that allows us to reach out with love to those that need it. When we break the ice and get to know those 'new' people or try to connect Biblically on a deeper level, that allows us to be used a vessel to reach into peoples live and make a real difference.

Coffeehouse Theology: Reflecting on God in Everyday Life

It took me a while to get through this book. Not because it's long...or boring...or anything like that, mostly because I started it before the holidays when things tend to pick up and get all crazy-like. And this is a book that, at least for me, required undivided attention to fully grasp. I am not an intellectual, personally, I don't even like big words...and theology was always one of those big words I avoided. Not having grown up in a church or having had a single seminary class, I kind of always left the "theology" alone. I felt like I had no place really discussing theology. But, after reading just a chapter or two of Ed's book made me realize that theology is simple. And the more I read, the more confident I felt that I could hold up my end of the conversation if I had to (or...if I wanted to!).

I originally wanted to read this book because I had had a string of conversations regarding "truth." We mulled over how 'your truth may not be the same as my truth' so what is true and how do we know? It goes right along with all of the post-modern, "emergent church" stuff going on lately. Is truth relative? Is there such thing as a truth anymore? Is it ok for your truth and my truth to be different? Well, this book hits that nail right on the head, discussing how we figure what truth is really true. And yes, my friends, there is an absolute truth in Jesus Christ!

Ed looks at the hazards of post-modern thought and how relative truth is dangerous. He also talks about how we tend to read the Bible in relation to our own life experiences. This is something I've talked about with people in great length. I interpret the Bible this way because this is my experience and what I've seen, while you understand it that way because that's what you've seen or done, and now we have two different views on this one Scripture. So which is right? There's no easy answer, but through theology... answers can be attained! Ed goes through the steps you'll need to take to fully grasp how theology works. It's a blending of studying the scriptures and taking your experiences along with others' experiences and sifting through it until there's a common denominator and going from there. Ed does a fantastic job of explaining the process, giving suggestions and opening your eyes to new references that can be used to get to the bottom of things, to fully flesh out the meaning of it all (at least to the extent that we, as humans, can).

This is a great read for anyone who isn't sure they're capable of taking on something as "heady" as theology, because with Ed's help, you'll realize that you can. You can find out more about Ed Cyzewski through his blog here.

In December we once again partnered with Gospel for Asia to make our listeners aware of their Christmas campaign. I am so proud of the response from Power FM listeners this year. Here are the results of Christmas gifts purchased from our listeners:

In order here are my picks and the reasons why, for the top 10 albums released in 2008.

Out of the hundreds of records that came out from January 1st, 2008 to December 31st 2008, I can say I did not get to review them all, but I feel like a made a pretty good dent and therefore offer my opinion on which one's where extra special and came to be some of the best of the year. It was hard to narrow down to just 10, I wanted to do 20, but I feel like the list is more exclusive and its easier to hear something from just 10 different cd's then 20. I finally want to say that since '02 when I started listening to Christian music, the game has completely changed. I don't listen to Christian music exclusively but its getting easier and easier to do that, being there are more really good, and really quality Christian musicians making music of all styles. I support Christian music with all my heart, infact I have dedicated my life to helping people understand and learn more about these artists. Why? Because I can testify to the fact that this music changes peoples lives, and that is because God speaks through the music.

Here are the top 10 cd's that changed my 2008 for the better:
10. LeCrae - Rebel
> I'm a hip/hop turntablist. I dj live events, concerts, parties, clubs, & even opened for rock bands (*like capital lights, & after edmund) So, I know about dj'ing and what its like to stand up face to face with a crowd and drop a track and have them really feel it. This new cd from LeCrae takes hardcore street hip/hop, and blends it with bold in your face lyrics about the Kingdom. Everytime I play it, people come up and ask,"dang, that is hot! who is that???"

9. The Classic Crime - The Silver Cord
> Dude, I listen to this cd in comparrison to the last full length album they released, and I wondered,"what have they been doing up there in Seattle?!!" They have taken like styles of rock, emo, grunge, and pop and blended them together on this Tooth & Nail release. I really like the more rockin tracks, like: 'abracadavers' & 'gravediggin'. This cd jams!!

8. The Justin Cofield Band - The Days of Love & King of Glory E.P.
> This actually -2- releases from the same Spin 180 artist. The first is the full length album, 'The Days of Love'. I can't tell you how quality and special this entire cd is start to finish. Its full of tasty licks, good lyrics, and even some instrumentals. The second is a short worship E.P. the band released after the new album(*in the same year). This E.P. is all covers and will make you love God more through music & wonder how a band like this is not signed.

7. Demon Hunter - 45 Days
> Interesting that I actually was not excited about this cd, I loved the studio album 'The Tryptich' so very very much. I bought copies for some of my metal friends who don't even listen to Christian music and they liked it! But, I was slow to rock this record, I guess I didn't think it could hold up, wow, was I mistaken. This live DVD captures the craziness that this band has sparked in its fans, and just how hard these guys work at what they do. My favorite Demon Hunter moment this year was when I was interviewing Brian 'Head' Welch on PowerFM and he said,"Demon Hunter, those guys scared me!" The music cd is a display of the otherside of this band, its a melodic mellow almost symphonic cd of original music.

6. Hillsong United - The I Heart Revolution
> I go to Fellowship Church and we sing Hillsong music all-the-time! Actually, I thought I would find myself rollin my eyes, but this is a live double cd, its like a greatest hits of some of the most powerful modern worship. I really recomend this cd, the general media have such a warped view about church music, I love the fact that this cd rocks, and captures thousands of people from shows all over the globe lifting their hands high to worship God in song and praise.

5. Braille - The IV
> The IV was released and it saw national press coverage in genral market magazines like; The Source. I listened to this album over and over, and everytime heard something new in his rhymes, and new elements in the tight tight production. When Braille was here on tour in support of this record, he played at the IGNITE youth center where I dj at on a weekly basis. I was climbing down from behind my turntables when he was about to go on, and Braille looked at me and said,"Where you going dj? You gonna rock this show with me or what?" So, it was pretty awesome to kill it with Braille, I am by no means anywhere near Rob Swift(*the dj on the record), but that expirence I will keep forever. Props to my man Luke Huch for hookin it up @ IGNITE every week!

4. Brian "Head" Welch - Save Me From Myself
> Read the book before you listen to the album. I have seen Korn somewhere between 8 or 9 times. When Brian made the announcement he had accepted Christ it was a real special moment for me in my walk, since Korn had been such a big part of my darker days. The album same title as the book sounds more like old school real Korn, then Korn has sounded like Korn on their last 3 records. The message in the music is so very very powerful and I believe that this man will touch many lives with his powerful story and music. Also, in 2008, I got to sit down and interview Brian live on my show, he is a really cool dude, and it was a dream come true to get to meet him and talk with him live on PowerFM.

3. The Listening - Transmissions I
> Many moons ago they were called, The Rock N' Roll Worship Circus, but now they have come into a new name, new sound, and new direction. This short little E.P. can only be aquired from the band, or at their live shows. They are on the same label as MuteMath and have a full length cd coming in '09 called, "LMNOP". The music is above and beyond anything I could have imagined that this band would drop. The new material from these guys really doesn't sound like anything else in the universe of Christian music. They are true originators, and will leave a lasting mark on our genre for being so creative and different.

2. Thrice - The Alchemy Index Volumes 3 & 4
> The second set of E.P.'s from Thrice that shook me down to my core. The single "Come All You Weary" is extremely powerful lyrically, and I love how this record is a hybrid of gospel, hardcore, and americana. If you are looking for typical 4/4 rock songs with sing-a-long chorus' this is not the record for you. But, I promise if you sitdown with a hot cup of tea and let these songs breathe life into you and take you to a new place for what I think 'might' be classified as punk rock music. I have moved this band into my top 10 favorite artists of all time because of what they have done over the last 5-6 years. Lead singer Dustin Kensrue is very creative and interesting fellow. This cd is totally awesome and everytime I look at it or think about it, makes me want to put it on and get lost in it.

1. Manafest - Citizen Activ
> Ok, ok, ok, almost everyone knows I am a member of Manafest's band. So, yes, I am a little biased, but come on, you know this cd is so awesome!!! Funny story, I really fell in love with a couple of the tracks when we were playing them like over and over on one of the tours we did in '08. My good friend Manafest(*Chris Greenwood), has shown me some powerful things about my faith and myself through the music and performing together. This album is about "doing" not just talking, or thinking about it. Me even getting to play with him is God making one of my dreams come true. Tracks like; 'Good Day', 'Free', & 'Live On', go right alone with something Chris talked about in his set, asking the audience, "If you could do anything for God, and you knew you were not going to fail, what would you do?"

Well, Happy 2009 everyone!

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year holiday! I took some vacation time to just be home with my family and it was nice. We, of course, were all sick the entire week between Christmas and New Years and I completely lost my voice for three days...but that's just the way it goes with our luck. Besides laying around being lazy, we did manage to get out and have some fun. We went down to Dublin, Texas for the day and spent some time at the Dr Pepper Museum. We took the tour and practically bought out the gift shop. What can I say? We like our Dr Pepper! The rest of the time we watched a lot of movies, ate a lot of great food and just hung out with each other. Can't beat that!

It's good to be back to work, though. I miss my Power FM peeps when I'm away.

12 Days of Christmas Tour

The Afters played a hometown show last night, along with Nevertheless and Remedy Drive at Live @ Mokah in Dallas. My birthday was this past Wednesday, and since it was in the middle of the week...I decided that I wanted to celebrate by going to this show on Saturday, 'cause I love The Afters and always enjoy seeing them again. It was a lot of fun.

Remedy Drive was very entertaining, with the lead singer attempting hand/headstands on his keyboard and whatnot. Too bad I never actually caught that on camera. I have a feeling their album, Daylight is Coming, is going to spend a good amount of time in my CD player!

I Am Second

I just laughed so hard it hurt...I'm serious.

So, I was going to MercyMe.org to look up some info on their Home For the Holiday concert coming up in Greenville. But I got distracted (yeah, me, distracted? NEVER!) by their Cover Tune Grab Bag feature on their blog. I watched the latest one "Crazy" and laughed. Then I watched the next one and laughed harder. And well, by the 5th or 6th video, I was laughing and crying and doubling over at how ridiculous these guys are. In a good way. David had to leave the room 'cause he couldn't even take it (or actually work or something, psshhh). Mercy Me knows what they're doing. They know how to blog, how to keep their listeners coming back to their website, how to stay connect with their fans, how to have FUN (plus their "real" songs aren't so bad either). Make sure you check out Bart's dancing in the "Jesus Is Just Alright" video! These are the guys who brought you the gut-wrenching, makes-me-cry-every-time-I-hear-it "I Can Only Imagine"...and then here they are in all their glory... Oh dear.

So, if you have some time on your hands and you want a good, hearty laugh, I highly recommend checking out the Mercy Me Cover Tune Grab Bags! Whew...my stomach still hurts and I'm still wiping my eyes. My favorites were "Take On Me" and "Jesus Is Just Alright" but don't forget "Jump" and "Eye Of The Tiger" and OH MY GOSH "Ice Ice Baby"....ahahahhahah! Oh geez, just go through page after page and watch them ALL, you won't be sorry!!!

On Halloween, House of Heroes - yes, all of the guys in HOH - dressed up as Matt Thiessen ("dreamy lead singer of Relient K") and performed on stage in Cleveland, OH as Matt Thiessen and The Thiessens...towards the end of the video the REAL Matt Thiessen even shows up!

Jesus For President: Politics for Ordinary Radicals by Shane Claiborne & Chris Haw

I have just finished up the book by Shane Claiborne and Chris Haw entitled Jesus For President. How timely, I know! It was definitely interesting, just as the previous book I read by Shane Claiborne (The Irresistable Revolution). I don't agree with him a lot of the time, but I do admire his passion to live out his beliefs. I find his writing eye-opening and definitely inspiring.

The book covers a lot of ground. Giving a quick history lesson run through of the way things worked "before there were kings and presidents" and then touching on the way emperors, kings and presidents evolved over time. It's main focus, through the first half of the book, seemed to be comparing the U.S. to the Roman Empire. It definitely brought up some points that I hadn't thought of before, like...

"The danger is that we can begin to read the Bible through the eyes of America rather than read America through the eyes of the Bible. We just want Jesus to be a good American."

The last part of the book consists of points that Shane and Chris make urging the reader to rethink the world, especially as an American living in America. Overall there are definitely some suggestions in there that I think some of us could learn from, in being better neighbors to not just our fellow Americans but to others around the world.

This book's antiwar themes are very prominent, as Shane is not one to dance around what he has to say. I'd like to share a few, brief, though-provoking passages/quotes...

"Jesus knew that his followers would face threats to their lives. But nowhere did Jesus teach that his followers should turn into wolves when they run into other scary wolves. He himself was killed like a sheep by wolves. By freely accepting crucifixion, he demonstrated what a sheep among wolves looks like. Refusing to become like the wolves to defeat the wolves. Jesus revealed that God, being love, chooses a different path - to suffer evil to overcome it."

"Christians must discern between the voices competing for their allegiance. Is history's voice the same as Jesus'? Does it call us to do the same things Jesus did?"

All in all, it made for an interesting read. Definitely worth checking out, though now that it's Election Day I hardly think anyone wants to hear the phrase "president" any more than absolutely necessary. But, this book is worth picking up, if for nothing else than the amazing artistry of the book. The entire thing is filled with colored paper, beautiful illustrations, cartoons and diagrams...it keeps you wanting to turn the page to see what's next (though I did find the parts that were intentionally misspelled/crossed out to be somewhat of a burden). I admire Shane, as I said before, for his passion and the way he lives out his beliefs and helps serve his fellow man...and he also has a beautiful way with words and makes it easy to read even the history that is this book.

Ok, I almost just fell out of my chair so I felt this news worthy of reporting to you guys! I mean, I knew she wasn't dead or anything, but she disappeared for so long! It was like this big CCM Mystery for a long time. But Miss Angie (now going by Angie Turner) is making a come back!

I wasn't prepared or even aware that he would be calling in today, but I had the opportunity to chat with Andrew Schwab of Project 86 this afternoon. I was, however, VERY glad to get to talk to him! I gushed a little (off the air, thankfully) about how much I love his writing, specifically his book, It's All Downhill From Here: On The Road with Project 86. Project 86 and Spoken will be performing tonight at The Lighthouse Church in Burleson at 6pm. Email will be out there in the Powermobile, so make sure to stop by and say hi to him as well! Get ready to have your face rocked off!

Kevin Max Concert

Former DC Talk member Kevin Max provided music at a conference at The North Church in Carrollton on Tuesday night. Since the night service was open to the public I went with a few friends from church. We were able to take some pictures of and with Kevin and I had a chance to talk with him. I saw on his Myspace page that he has a motorcycle, so we talked about our motorcycles. And of course I asked him about his experience playing the lead in the new movie “The Imposter”.

Remember we are going to see “The Imposter” for a station fundraiser on Sunday October 12. It will be at 7PM at “The Studio Movie Grill” in Lewisville. Tickets are $7 and you can RSVP weekdays between 9 and 5 by calling our office at 214-353-8970. More info: Get-Together page.
