For our May Get-Together we went to the movies! We rented out a theater at The Studio Movie Grill in Lewisville to watch The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. Everyone at the station was so excited about this get-together and movie...and it was great that so many of our listeners and friends were excited as well!
I saw the first Chronicles of Narnia film (The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe) the day before Preston was born. I was having contractions all through the film, but I sure wasn't going to miss it! So, needless to say, I'm definitely interested in this series. I didn't read the books until relatively recently (probably 2003 or so), because my husband insisted I would love them - he was a big fan! I read them, and I DID love them. Even more recently I read the first two parts to Preston at bed-time (it would only take a few paragraphs and he'd be out like a light - it took a while to get through them), having just finished up Prince Caspian last month. So the story was definitely still fresh on my mind going into this movie on Saturday.
Don't worry, if you haven't seen the film yet, I'm not going to really spoil anything for you here. I liked the movie, but I do have to say it was quite different from the book. It seemed to me huge chunks of the story were skipped or rushed through, to make way for the battle scenes. The fighting was a very small part of the book, actually...though watching the movie you'd think it was the main focus of the entire story-line. The battle was important, but there was a lot to the story-telling that we missed out on as well. I liked that the humor of certain situations were left in-tact, as C.S. Lewis was quite funny. And Reepicheep was pretty much as I pictured him, brave and valiant...don't you dare just call him a mouse!
All in all, I'd say that the movie and the Get-Together both exceeded my expectations. Thanks to everyone who came out and spent their Saturday afternoon with us, enjoying a fine film and some great lunch! See you guys at next month's Get-Together...tentatively planned for June 16th with Ever Stays Red in concert (more details to be announced).
Keep rockin' for Christ!
Jade =)
