Money, money, money!

Last week I was listening to news radio and heard that Americans spent over 11 billion dollars on plastic surgery in 2007. Wow, even one of the news ladies made a comment about people not being able to pay their mortgages but we spend that much on botox! Then I could not help but think about a youth pastor I know who said his church could no longer afford to pay him. Now I know that here at the radio station we ask for money a lot, we have to so that we can keep rockin for Jesus, but I really hope that all of us realize the importance of tithing. I also hope that above our tithe we are giving offerings to many of God's ministries. So please keep supporting your church, I don't want to hear about any more youth pastors being let go. I also believe that the youth of America are way more important that a face lift.

I agree. Getting ready for work today, I had the TV in the background and overheard something very silly... a show about girls' "super sweet 16." Now, I’ve heard of the show before but was floored when a mom was buying a single dress for a girl (that made her look very, very much older than she should appear at 15) -- and the dress cost $5,200! That was for the dress alone. When you add in costs for the band, party, food, building, etc. -- you've now got a party that costs upwards of more than it would have cost me to go to Harvard.

When parent solely give away all of that for one evening of "love," I’d hate to see it when the girl gets married; she'll expect at least double the cost there.

Raise kids like this and then allow them to attempt to live in the real world on their own, making it for themselves, and we're raising a generation that will only live to fall on its face. I'm only 26 years old and I completely understand this by now. I hope this generation doesn't disappoint. (No wonder the minds of the youth have fallen so much behind -- they don't know how to live in today's world & what should truly matter about living life...)

Thanks for the comments Eddie.

I worked as a youth minister for over 10 years and my peak salary was $12,500 yr. My family and I could barely buy groceries after tithe and taxes. Come on ppl!

It's true that everything in this world eventually comes down to money, and the waste of it. My dad told me about a prayer group that he was a part and there were some very successful men in the group. You know doctors, lawyers and such. Anyway, they were talking about tithing and this guy who had just got through telling about his new car had this to say...."I came out of a grocery store and saw a woman who looked homeless and hungry, I asked if she wanted something to eat and went back in and got her a burger." He said this with great pride, like that was his great gift to God, a burger, instead of what the word tells us. It just amazes me sometimes how some people who have a lot find it so hard to give.

Also, my church right now is in need of items for the nursery. Play pens, bouncers, and walkers. Unfortunately the church just doesn't have the money to purchase these items. So I'm searching for donations, and cheaper items to buy for them.
