Eddie and Adrian (if you can find him) at Travis Middle School in Irving.
Remember the game Where's Waldo ?
Well...I have a new one for you and its called Where's Adrian ? Find me yet ? If not, don't worry because I have no idea where I am as well.
This morning Eddie and I went to speak at Travis Middle School in Irving for a Fellowship of Christian Athletes event. The idea of waking up at 6:00 in the morning to be at the school by 7:30 did not seem appealing to me at all! I mean I am the night guy here. I don't usually wake up that early unless I have to. Come to think of it I actually got to hear Chris and Dawn for once. Not only that but I was in the studio with then during their show! During the two years I have been here at Power FM I don't think that I have ever been in the studio with them during their show.
Well, thats besides the point and I am getting off track with my blog. Eddie and I get to Travis Middle School at about 7:25am right before a mass of about 35 kids coming running into the basketball gym. We quickly recap the game plan and I learn I am about to speak first. No big deal right? I quickly touch on the fact of how akward middle school was for me and how goofy I looked. Yes, I said I was goofy looking. I was into sports but I was a nerdy looking guy with braces and glasses who tried to play every sport possible. Then I topped it off with how God used that time for me as a time to shape my perspective on how much like our walk sports is a team effort.
When I really think about it, middle school was the least favorite time for me. So many transitions taking place and so much temptation. I am thankful I was plugged into a youth group and had awesome parents to keep my out of trouble. I think everyone has the really awkard stage in life where you do what you can to fit in but no matter how hard you try you still feel left out. I think E-mail is still there. If he reads this know I am tottally kidding. He's a cool dude.
But thinking back I know in middle school it was all about the shoes. For some women it still is but for guys it was all about the Jordan's, the Air Force One's the Dr. Martin's. Then I remember it being so important that you had the latest fashion items and shoes. People would walk around with E-BAY catalogs drooling over what new shoes where coming out this season. Now I think its nuts. They are shoes.
I really enjoyed getting the opportunity to speak to the FCA group. Eddie hit a homerun with his sports sermon. He talked about how as Christians it is important to remember the seed we sow and the harvest it will produce. Then backed it up with sports talk about football. How can you not like talk about football. Unless you are Tom Brady then talk of football is like posion to your perfect season.
